Five-seat luxury convertible of the international top class, water-cooled side-controlled 4.9 liter Lycoming WS L-Head eight-cylinder in-line engine, 88 hp, five-bearing crankshaft, Shebler updraft carburetor, centrifugal water pump, multi-plate dry clutch, three-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, hydraulic drum brakes on all four wheels, handbrake acting on prop shaft, custom wire wheels with center lock, original Balcrank bumpers (original equipment by Auburn for 1929), Scintilla headlights, side wind deflectors, two side-mounted spare wheels, crank windows front and rear, gray convertible folding top, luggage trunk, many other equipment details.

The Auburn Automobile Company, which was founded in 1900 by Frank and Morris Eckhart, became the property of Errett Lobban Cord in 1924. Under his leadership, the company rose to become one of the top luxury car producers like Duesenberg or Cord, which were also part of Cord's corporate empire. The Phaeton model in question here was based on a design by prominent car designer Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, whose father Prince Vladimir de Shakhnovsky was an advisor to Tsar Nicholas II.

The Model 8-88 of 1929 served the luxury market and was priced much higher than mass market vehicles. Just that year saw the catastrophic Great Depression that began with Black Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and had unprecedented effects for many years to come. This also hit the Auburn Company with full force, as sales figures dropped drastically, as they did for all manufacturers. This is also the reason why there are relatively few copies in existence today. This is especially true for the very expensive convertible version.

The present vehicle is in running condition, has papers of the Republic of Austria and is registered. It can therefore be imported tax- and duty-free into all member states of the European Union! An international delivery can be organized at any time via our experienced classic car forwarder.

We are pleased to offer you this rarity on behalf of one of our customers. The convertible is on display in our showroom in Klein-Poechlarn and can be viewed by prior appointment by telephone during our business hours from Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. and from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
