I am offering for sale my 1985 Ducati S2 Mille Desmo, the 105th built out of only 171. This bike had been ornamenting the shop-window of a Ducati dealership for decades before I found it and started recommissioning over the past year or two.

The S2 Mille is the very last of the bevels and was discontinued by Cagiva the moment they acquired the Ducati company. Ducati proceeded to build many belt-driven OHC motorcycles and the rest is modern history. The Mille engine is the very best of the bevel engines and features in the later MHR's as well as the rare S2. It is fundamentally a very much improved 860/900 and Ducati had plans to base all their future bikes on this beautiful engine. The S2 was marketed as sports-tourer (in contrast to the popular MHR which was a sports bike) and it was the pinnacle of what Ducati had on offer at that time. Unfortunately only 171 of these machines were ever produced - this is #105.

I did the following work on the bike:
- all brakes completely rebuilt (not the discs- they are still as new)
- fresh wheel bearings
- fresh chain and sprockets
- suspension completely rebuilt
- engine rinse and oil/filter change (twice!)
- new clutch friction plates
- valve clearance check
- fresh plugs
- cleaned the tank and applied new liner (E5/E10 resistent)
- complete carb-rebuild
- fresh tyres (Bridgestone BattleAxes)
- new replica screen (original one is very brittle now - but does come with the sale)
- new (Odyssee P535) battery including tender plug
- thorough cleaning and polishing overall

The bike is an original S2 Mille - with the original Silentiums and the air filters still mounted. It has had two previous owners - the second of which was the owner of the Ducati dealership where the bike stood for decades - but he never rode it and being a wise man, he filled the engine all the way up with conservation mineral oil.

After all the prepping work, the bike started at the first touch of the button and after a little carb-tweaking, now runs like a dream.

Non-original components are:
- I mounted a side stand because it is a heavy bike to get on the centre stand for petrol stops and coffee-breaks.
- There were never any red S2-mille’s from the factory but I suspect this one was professionally sprayed by the original dealer in the 80’s when it was still new because the S2 wouldn’t sell easily in the original colour-scheme. It is sprayed in a beautiful ‘Ducati red’ and in my mind is better than the original scheme.
- The belly pan is not mounted but is included in the sale. I like it with the this beautiful engine in full view.

What I would do if I had kept the bike:
- possibly a respray of the wheels - there are some minor tyre-change scratches.
- maybe add a tooth or two to the rear sprocket - 1st gear is rather looong in standard setup, especially when tootling around town.
- Some may consider a respray in original colours. I have an offer from a professional painter local to me to do this for 1500euro - including the decals so I can have that undertaken should the new owner so desire.
- Nothing else as the bike is in perfect overall condition.

The current mileage is 19000km but when the weather picks up, it may increase due to the incidental sunny Sunday afternoon run. It is a delightful bike to ride, it’s fast, very strong, brakes beautifully and sounds like it should.
The bike comes with complete paperwork, the two original and complete sets of keys, a high-quality battery tender, the original screen and the belly pan.

There are simply too many bikes in my stable so I have decided to sell a few of the younger ones as my primary interest goes out to the older bikes.

I have more pictures, engine and frame numbers for those wanting to check the provenance and a video of the bike for anyone who is interested. It is currently fully registered in the Netherlands but I can supply in/export papers and/or assistance with shipping and crating if needed.
