| | | 1966 SUNBEAM TIGER Mk1. STUNNING CAR. RESTORED. 302ci (5 Litre) 5 SPEED BOX. POWER STEERING.
This beautifully restored 1966 Sunbeam Tiger is a fantastic example of the marque. The last owner (ex chairman of the Sunbeam Tiger club) purchased the car in 2013. The car was already a good example but he decided to improve the car and return it to its original Carnival Red colour. A back to bare metal and engine out restoration and re-paint was completed in 2015. A host of other improvements followed:
The car has a 302 engine, Tiger inlet manifold, electronic ignition, oil cooler, aluminium radiator and thermostatically controlled electric fan, alternator, chrome sump, 4 barrel Holley carburettor, Facet fuel pump – located in spare wheel well, ventilated front disc brakes, 15 inch Panasport alloys, 2¾ inch exhausts, anti-tramp bars, mohair soft top and tonneau cover and black leather steering wheel. Most brightwork re-chromed, new windscreen, new door seals, engine dynamically balanced, brand new Tremec 5 speed gearbox, back axle rebuilt and Powerloc limited slip diff supplied by Dana (Salisbury), electric power steering, solid state coil, rev counter converted to electronic, new colour matched (red) hoses, new front and rear shock absorbers, petrol tanks internally sealed, new clutch, new (80% wool) carpets with red leather edging, new red seat belts, Blaupunkt Toronto 420BP Radio/CD/Bluetooth player. This car has been taken on may trips, multiple times to France, including the ‘Tiger 50’ grand tour in 2014 to Cannes/Monaco etc. With its massive torque, power steering and 5-speed gearbox it is an easy car for cruising, whilst listening to the low burbling from the 2¾” exhausts. The car has had light use and has been driven with a light right foot. The car has made many appearances in the club magazine ‘Cats Whiskers’ and is also in ‘The Tiger50 Book’. The car has won a number of Club Awards, notably: 2016 Best Restoration Shield – Outright Winner and 2019 Concours – Class Winner. VIN number: B9472933, JAL 562471. Note, the car was built on 10thMarch 1965, but not registered until 1966. The history file has 15 old MOT's and a lot of old invoices that show over £15,000 spent on parts alone. Over £10,000 was spent on the re-paint. There is a photo album showing the restoration. The car runs and drives superbly and is a great investment that can be used and enjoyed.

The Sunbeam Tiger was developed by the Rootes Group and Carroll Shelby as a budget alternative for the AC Cobra 289. By changing the engine from the Alpine by the Ford small block V8 260Ci, they created quite a spectacular sportscar. Most of the Tigers went to the USA, but it remained quite rare with a total of only 71
