EQUIPMENT

EXTERIOR
With its lower, more assertive stance, genuine Carat Duchalet bodykit and attractive AMG alloys, this very well presented E280 looks fantastic against our studio backdrop. The rare Malachite Green metallic paintwork is remarkably clean throughout, boasting a deep glossy shine across every upper panel with a lovely period-correct satin finish to the lower sections. The car is nice and straight along both sides and certainly draws plenty of admiring glances when out on the road. On close inspection there are of course one or two small blemishes to report, the worst being a handful of minor scuff marks beneath the front skirt with some light frontal stone chips to the bonnet and bumper also.

INTERIOR
Awash with supple Beige leather and glossy Zebrano wood trim, the airy 124 cabin remains in splendid condition throughout. Mercedes of this era were built to a very high standard, and it really shows. Even with 105k miles on the clock the seats hint only at light use, and the switchgear is all still reassuringly solid to operate. There are no squeaks or rattles to be heard from the dash and everything works just as it should, including the electric sunroof. The light-coloured carpets are well protected in the footwells by a set of tailored overmats, and the headlining is also really clean and free from any unsightly sagging.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 24v 2.8-litre straight-six is wonderfully smooth on test and sounds great through the Supersprint stainless exhaust, which isn’t at all boomy. Under the bonnet the engine bay is in fantastic order with no signs of any damage or poor repair. Better still, the car has been really well maintained from new with an excellent service history to match. The service book is complete with 21 stamps, the first 2 from Mercedes and the remaining 19 from the same Mercedes specialist, Addspeed Engineering Ltd. Since arriving with us the car has been fully inspected, freshly serviced, and MOT’d for the new keeper’s peace of mind.

WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
Filling the arches are 17-inch AMG alloy wheels in excellent order throughout. They are shod in premium Michelin tyres at the front with brand new Pirellis having just been fitted at the rear. Equipped with braided hoses and Tarox Sport Japan discs, the brakes are in fine operational condition, bringing the car to halt quickly and in a straight line with minimal effort. Despite its larger wheels, low profile tyres, and lowered suspension the car still rides like a dream, just like any good ‘90s Mercedes should.

HISTORY FILE
This attractive W124 E280 was first registered in September 1994. It has now driven just 105k miles in the hands of seven owners from new. The service book is comprehensively stamped with 21 entries, not including the service we have just had carried out at the current mileage. The first 2 services were conducted by Mercedes main agents, with the remaining 19 stamps all from the same Mercedes specialist, Addspeed in Horsham.

With a view to keeping the car forever the previous owner invested many thousands of pounds into creating his dream 124. As a low mileage E280 in rare and desirable Malachite Green this example provided an excellent base, and was soon upgraded with a genuine Carat Duchalet bodykit (costing circa £2k), genuine 17-inch AMG alloy wheels (circa £1,500), a Supersprint stainless steel exhaust (£1,500), H&R suspension (£750), Tarox Sport Japan brake discs all round with braided hoses (£628), and Brabus Hella front fog lights (£279). Inside the car was treated to a Zebrano wood steering wheel, cubby box and gear knob.

Since arriving at 4 Star the car has been fully inspected, freshly serviced, and MOT’d ready to be enjoyed by the new keeper. The service history is as follows:
