1947 Douglas T35. Excellent example of first post war model SOLD
According to the buff log book in the history file, Mr Waite was to retain the Douglas until 1971. The bike remained in the Pontefract area until the mid 1990s when it was restored in the West Midland. More recently it has had two owners in East Anglia. Looking at the MoT history it appears the Douglas has covered a mere 2, 500 miles since restoration.
The bike remains in excellent condition.
The T35, announced in 1945, was the first of Douglas’ 350cc ohv transverse flat twins and was an all-new design, unlike many of their competitors whose initial offerings were updated pre-war ranges. It was one the first production motorcycles to be fitted with swing arm rear suspension, uniquely in the case of the Douglas via a longitudinal torsion bar. The front forks were also very distinctive, being Douglas’ ‘Radiadraulic’ design. The T35 was the only post war Douglas model to feature the Douglas name cast into the aluminium rocker box covers.
As far as we are aware the Douglas offered here is mechanically standard, save for the fitment 12 volt electrics with Boyer Bransden electronic ignition and a Power Box Dynamo Regulator. Direction indicators have also been fitted.
A brief ride up the drive has shown everything to be working correctly.
The stylish T35 is now a rare machine and consequently they do not come up for sale often making this an ideal opportunity to acquire a significant piece of motorcycle history.
