Things to know about this MERCEDES-BENZ 300 SEL 6.3 SALOON W109
According to the original service booklet, this Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL was delivered to its new owner as a new car by the Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft Frankfurt a.M. branch in 1969. In April 1973, an engine change was also carried out there, which was also meticulously noted in the service booklet. In 1975, a US Army GI stationed in Frankfurt acquired the car and took it with him to sunny California. Almost rust-free, the 6.3 made its "journey home" to Germany some 40 years later. However, the past years had left their traces, which were now removed here in Germany by a restoration company with the best reputation. In its day, the 300 SEL was the ultimate car to have in the garage. It was not without reason that a large number of prominent owners of a 6.3, such as e.g. German Football World Champion Franz Beckenbauer and Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, were among them.

History of this MERCEDES-BENZ 300 SEL 6.3 LIMOUSINE W109
Long before the AMG badge appeared on production cars, the W109 was regarded as the fastest four-door production saloon in Germany. Under the aegis of Erich Waxenberger, the long-serving head of the road test department and former head of motorsport at Mercedes-Benz, the test vehicle of a 300 SEL 6.3 with the legendary M100 power unit from the Mercedes-Benz 600 was created. This subsequently made it into series production under the designation W109, in contrast to a 300SL 6.3 Pagoda (W113). This test vehicle was scrapped at the factory.
In the spring of 1968, Daimler-Benz presented the "fastest German series-produced saloon" to the public: 5 occupants could be transported in the utmost comfort and safety at up to 220 km/h. The press wrote: "The magnificent 300SL 6.3 Pagoda (W113) was a real success. The press wrote: "The greatest limousine in the world!" To prove the reliability of the W109, Waxenberger took part in the 6-hour endurance race in Macau. During subsequent tests, he met Hans Werner-Aufrecht, the founder of AMG. As a result of their collaboration, they presented the famous "Red Pig" - a 300SEL with an M100 power unit bored out to 6.8 litres, which, among other things, took second place at the Spa 24 Hours in 1971 and celebrated success in a wide variety of racing events.
The 300SEL 6.3 W109 is considered the forefather of all sports saloons, which makes it an icon in the history of Mercedes-Benz automobiles. A reliable "daily driver" that even 52 years after it rolled off the production line still transports its occupants reliably, comfortably and safely to their destination. From the outside it was only recognisable by the wider tyres, the halogen twin headlights and the additional wide-beam headlights, and it was only delivered with a long wheelbase. The factory standard equipment included a chassis with air suspension, disc brakes on all four wheels and a limited slip differential on the rear axle. The 6.3-litre V8 engine (M 100) with mechanical Bosch eight-cylinder injection pump has an output of 184 kW (250 hp) at 4000 rpm. Maximum torque is 500 Nm at 2800 rpm. Its top speed is 220 km/h, and the W109 needs just 6.5 seconds (factory specification) to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Production of the successful series ended in November 1972.
