1955 Triumph TR2, UK Matching No's, Various Upgrades For Sale
The rebuild was comprehensive, the body was totally stripped down and treated to new floors, sills, inner and outer wings bulkhead and door skins. The panels were fitted by a Triumph specialist ensuring the completed shell was as new with attention to detail ensuing gaps and fit were excellent. The chassis was blasted and then painted and as a result the underneath of the car is almost as new. Brightwork was all replaced or re-chromed and painted wire wheels fitted, 72 spoke on the rear and 60 spoke on the front with new tyres. The upholstery was totally re-trimmed with new door cards, carpets, dashboard cover and new leather seats with new springs. A wood rim Nardi steering wheel nicely finished off the interior and all weather gear was replaced and is as new.
The engine was rebuilt with the crankshaft reground and hardened, balanced with the flywheel and clutch cover. New main and big end bearings were fitted and a re-conditioned oil pump fitted. A new fast road cam was fitted with lightened timing gears/ chain. New 86mm pistons and liners were fitted and a high port head with HS6 SU's on the curved manifold fitted. A new distributor and reconditioned radiator was fitted and a narrow belt pulley conversion on crank and water pump fitted. The TR was also treated to a new alternator, high torque starter, electric fan and electric fuel pump. A lightened TR4 flywheel with diaphragm clutch was fitted and the gearbox was rebuilt with new bearings and syncro's. The propshaft was re-conditioned and the stronger Gurling axle has been fitted. All splined hubs were new and the brakes were fully rebuilt with new discs, re-conditioned calipers on braided flexible hoses and all brake pipes were fitted in copper with new rear brakes and handbrake cables. Further upgrades include servo and silicone fluid. The steering box was rebuilt and all new track rod ends with bronze bush conversion on the draglink fitted. New trunnions and ball joints were also fitted and new front and rear springs, upgraded dampers and new wishbone pans fitted. The electrical system was fully re-conditioned and upgraded.
As expected with the level of work carried out this car is truly outstanding to drive. Not only is the running gear exceptional 1000 miles in, but the upgrades are all highly desirable and hugely improve the driving, reliability and performance of the car. This is the ultimate drivers TR2 and is perfect for the continent, long distance touring and endurance road rallies. URM 221 is a real drivers car, it handles perfectly, brakes superbly and the performance is truly wonderful. It's quick, tight, sounds fabulous and just wants to be driven. The car presents incredibly well, the underside is first class, but the what makes this car stand out from the rest is the way it drives and performs. A true gem and hard to replicate this driving experience in a TR2.
