This is one of just a handful original condition still in existence in military spruce green. The military rejected these for field use and they were sold to the public.
MK1s were built at BMC in Birmingham. Thereafter they were white, and other loud colours and built in Portugal and Australia as a fun car. Cagiva and others also had a licence to build, but these were not original cars. Only UK BMC mid 1960S are collectors’ cars.
Three keepers: first not known, but owned it for about two years. Second and third were both film directors: Bosie Vine-Miller of many films to include The Pink Panther, followed by third owner Alastair Reid of Inspector Morse fame.
Vine-Miller sold the Moke to Reid in 1969 who owned the car for nearly 45 years. Reid did not have a driving licence so it was driven by a chauffeur, on film sets and where he lived in Devon.
For 20 or so years the Moke was stored in a barn and largely forgotten. On Reid's death the car was recovered, and at that time the decision was made not to renovate and to leave exactly as original.
IF YOU ARE SEEKING AN ORIGINAL MOKE TO KEEP AND TO SHOW AND TO HIRE FOR TV OR FILMS, THIS IS ONE OF A HANDFUL LEFT IN THE WORLD.

Delving into the Moke's design history, I had clean forgotten that Sir Alec Issigonis had been the brains behind the Moke too; he really was a brilliant and revolutionary designer as he used an identical engine, transmission and suspension parts to the Mini and as a result, it was really fun to drive.
