Now, to be cool you need to be electric. Or hybrid as a minimum. Especially if, like me, you have kids that will disown you if you come home with a gas-guzzling, noisy sports car.
The new NSX is very impressive: Twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre V6; nine speed gearbox; high-tech materials; torque vectoring using the twin electric motors at the front; third generation magnetic ride dampers; Direct Yaw Control, fly-by-wire braking - The new NSX is brilliant, and prices now make them a realistic proposition - the best value hybrid sports car available.
When the new NSX first came out the only equivalent cars were the McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 and the La Ferrari – all million pound supercars. Now realistic alternatives to the new NSX include the Ferrari SF90 Stradale with a hefty £375,000 price tag. But, for me, it’s simply too fast. Performance you will either never use or get arrested trying. Buy one and you are wasting the extra £276,000. The NSX does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and has a 191mph top speed. Do you really need more?

Here is a little true story: I was photographing this new NSX along the driveway of the estate on which we are based. There was a mum and two young kids having a little lockdown exercise on their bikes. It was cold. I could tell they were posh as all three were wearing - as a result of Coronavirus - unused ski-wear. The mum saw me approaching and corralled the kids to the side of the road to let me pass. So I switched to quiet mode and drove by completely silently on the electric motors.
I stopped at the entrance of the estate to take some more photos and the family caught up with me.
The Mum said: “Thanks (I assumed she was referring to my road manners). Nice car. Is it electric?”
I said, “Yes”
She said, “Cool” and they cycled off.
