Chassis No: 8112555
-Just five owners from new (documented via eight old logbooks including the original)
-Rare aluminium over ash bodywork
-Recently treated to a back axle refurbishment, new battery, replacement steering arm and five fresh tyres
-Known as ‘Bluebell’ this RK saloon was first registered on 7th May 1930 and is consequently eligible for the Light Car and Vintage sections of the VSCC.
The story of the Austin Seven is well documented. The precursor to peoples’ cars including the Morris Minor, VW Beetle and Citroen 2CV, the Austin Seven also gave life to several prestigious brands including Jaguar, Lotus, BMW and Nissan – each of whom began by producing copies of the Seven under licence or coachbuilt variations upon the Seven theme. Its simple A frame chassis with leaf springing also formed the basis of numerous specials from single seaters to trials cars, all powered by the same 747cc engine. Capable of 40mpg and 40mph, the RK saloon was one of the most popular derivatives alongside the Chummy tourer.
Purchased in Summer 2019 by the vendor, a vintage enthusiast, during his custodianship ‘OG 910’ has benefited from the fitment of five Longstone tyres, new steering arm, new battery and refurbished rear axle (for which bills are available). Unusually, the RK had a factory-fitted aluminium body over an ash frame making it far more durable than the fabric-type most models received and effectively results in a Chummy with a hard top. Having had just four previous keepers, Bluebell has an almost fully documented life since new and has eight old logbooks including the original. The third owner kept the car from 1937 until 1961 and the fifth from 1980 to 2003. The engine is the original as is the number plate.
Offered with a full box folder, which includes letters and bills from previous owners together with certain amount of old history and original bills this charming aluminium-bodied Seven is worthy of close inspection.
