2002 manual gearbox Ferrari 360 Modena For Sale

The Ferraris of the great Enzo were the front V12 engined berlinettes, the 'horse has to pull the cart'. But a certain Miura born in 1966 shattered these principles, forcing a serious rethink in Maranello. It started with the modest 'Dino', which later became the FERRARI 246 GT. This was followed by a talented line of cars that retained the "rear mid-engine" architecture, which ensured perfect balance. After the 308, 348 tb and F355, the 360 Modena appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1999. The V8 is still in a central position (a sublime 3. 5L with 400 bhp), but the car has moved on in many respects. In terms of form, the Modena swaps the traditional front grille for a "nose" with two large side nostrils and its retractable headlights for visible headlights. In addition to a significant increase in details & quality, the Modena's bodywork and structure are made of aluminum, a material that is both light and rigid.
The Modena has benefited from extensive wind tunnel work (flat bottom, air extractor, etc.), which allows it to avoid the installation of unsightly spoilers. Apart from the shields, which are made of composite, the structure and bodywork elements are made entirely of aluminum. This means no risk of corrosion, and the alloy combines lightness and rigidity. From the outset, a Modena looks good, with careful fitting and quality paintwork, offering a nice depth effect. The front end is often exposed to gravel and requires a coat of paint.
The 3. 5L V8 dry sump engine with titanium connecting rods is the masterpiece of the car. It is reputed to be reliable, even if it loves high revs (400 bhp at 8, 500 rpm!), provided that it receives regular maintenance, starting with the replacement of the timing belt, to be done every 4 years or 50, 000 km, even if the car is not running. Finally, in addition to the obligation to use quality fluids, it is essential to put the mechanics "al dente" before using it! As far as the transmission is concerned, you should know that the F1 gearbox signed Magneti-Marelli equips 75% of the Modena... but it is the weak link of the car! In addition to a perfectible management (jerks, slow shifts, roughness), light years away from the efficiency displayed today, this gearbox wears out the clutch prematurely, and even more so for the models used to city driving or track days. Prefer without hesitation, as on our Modena, a model equipped with the good old manual box, sublime with its aluminum lever, and magical to slide in its "H" pattern. Less demanding in terms of maintenance, it is likely that these purist models will be the most sought-after in the future!
This rear-wheel drive car is announced by Ferrari at 1390 kg dry weight. With a full tank and one person on board, the weight is close to 1, 600 kg. The steel brakes, which are durable (330 mm), are still very effective.
When driving sportily on a small, winding, dry road, the Modena delights its driver by offering a very good driving feeling, both in terms of steering and behavior. The V8 revs are both sonorous and magical, and the mechanical gearbox makes it easy to get into the swing of things. On the fast track, the Modena shows off its efficiency up to... 270 km/ h, a "cape" where the front end loses some of its weight.... After 280 kph, the front end regains its aerodynamic qualities and settles down again, all the way to the 290 kph allowed by the engine.

Delivered new in Italy, our Modena spent the first years of its life in the good care of the Bonnini workshop: a reference. It is through our intermediary that its current owner bought it from the first owner with 46000km on the odometer in 2016. He used it little but has followed the maintenance scrupulously as proven by the last overhaul and change of belts at the end of November 2020 at 51107km.
He has also had all the plastic parts treated as they had suffered a chemical reaction and were becoming 'sticky'.
Second hand. Mechanical gearbox. Up to date maintenance with only 52000km... it's just waiting for its new owner.
