With production of this specification ending in August 1967 and relatively few fitted with a manual gearbox, this Daimler is a rare survivor.
This Daimler has been maintained throughout its life seemingly regardless of cost, with the first owner in 1967 finally parting with the car in 2013. Documents include original manual, service history book from 1967-1981 plus detailed maintenance and restoration file from 1989 onwards. The engine was rebuilt at 77009 miles. Records state that the odometer was not reset. The engine has had relatively light use since.
Full body off restoration by CJ Car Body in 1993 Engine rebuild by Humphrey Bunyan in 2001 at 77009 miles. Invoice from Batemans Classic Cars Restoration in 2007 itemises the completion of a comprehensive schedule of works, including waxoil and underseal of new bodywork, at a cost of over £4500. Further refresh by Leewards, Worthing in 2013. The extensive history file includes invoices totalling in excess of £25000.
Jaguar Heritage production record certificate confirms build date and factory fitted manual transmission with overdrive. Original build date July 1967. First registered with DVLA in October 1967 as a V8 250, distributor Dorking Motors.
Silver grey. Original black leather split front seats with arm rests. The walnut veneer dashboard, trims and original steering wheel are in good condition as is the headlining. Wide rear bumper with the Daimler motif. The V8 engine has a wonderful burble and the car is a joy to drive. Kept in a heated garage and used sparingly in current ownership.
In February 1967 the option of a four speed manual gearbox with overdrive was introduced by Daimler. The serial number of the gear box is JVN196.
When Jaguar merged with Daimler they had a great 2. 5 litre V8 engine that Edward Turner had recently designed and had been putting in the Daimler Darts. It fitted nicely in the Jaguar MkII body shell and being lighter weight giving better performance and smoother running.
