1963 Morris Mini Rally Car For Sale

This 1963 Morris Mini Super Deluxe is a substantially upgraded example of the iconic classic, which has been fully converted for tarmac stage rallying using a raft of high-quality components. Under the bonnet is a fully rebuilt A-series engine, generating a dyno-proven 90bhp, which is handled via the four-speed manual transmission. The car has covered 500 miles since rebuild, the odometer displays 75, 637 miles, however this is not warranted.

Starting life as a Super Deluxe model, this UK-market Morris Mini was first registered in November 1963, and was acquired by the seller four years ago, before being fully rebuilt to compete on the country’s rally stages.

Today, its bodywork presents well, with the shell having been blasted back to bare metal and fitted with a number of replacement panels, including a full Mk1 Mini floor with a hole for a Mk2 remote-change gear shift and period-correct fluted outer sills. A new roof panel to replace a previous sunroof, Resprayed during the car’s restoration, the Tartan Red paintwork has been applied to a good standard, and has a bright and glossy appearance around the entire car

In line with motorsport regulations, the side and rear windows have been replaced with Lexan panels, and the car has also been fitted with black fibreglass wheel arches and the front grille and surround from a Mk1 Mini Cooper S. Furthermore, the underbody has been finished in a highly resistant Raptor protective coating, guarding against damage and corrosion. This peppy compact rally car rides on a set of 10-inch alloy wheels, which are replicas of classic Dunlop D1 items, and present very well.

On entering the stripped-out cabin, you are met by a pair of Sabelt rally seats, which are in date until 2025 and are in great shape, Both are fitted with six-point harnesses from Turn One, valid until 2026, and all of the brake and fuel lines have been relocated inside the car in line with Motorsport UK regulations. a 380mm Sparco steering wheel, which is trimmed in black Alcantara, and the car also features a rare Speedwell wood dashboard panel fitted with its original speedometer and upgraded electronic oil pressure, water temperature and rev-counter gauges. Safety equipment includes a full Safety Devices roll cage with extra door bars, rear cross bars and HANS-friendly seatbelt bars, plus Lifeline Zero 360 plumbed-in and hand-held fire extinguishers which were serviced in March 2020.

As part of its full conversion to rally specifications, most of this Mini’s mechanical components have been renewed. Its engine is a 1300GT A-series unit, which was fully rebuilt by Roland Alsop Engineering, rebored to 1330cc and fitted with new pistons and good used Cooper S rods, as well as a re-ground and balanced 1300GT crankshaft, an 11 stud lightly ported cylinder head, race valves, a Mini Spares Evo2 performance camshaft, 1. 5 Roller rockers, central oil pick up, CSi Electronic ignition Distrubutor and twin SU carburettors.

In addition, an alloy radiator has been fitted, along with multiple polyurethane engine steadies and a Maniflow LCB & exhaust system.

The transmission is a period-correct remote-change unit, which has been fully reconditioned with all new bearings and seals, while an uprated four-pin MiniSpares differential has also been fitted, floating drop gear bearings in addition to a racing-specification metallic clutch plate with Orange cover plate, balanced lightweight pre engaged flywheel with A-plus starter and a KAD quick shifter.

This Mini’s handling is enhanced by its fully overhauled suspension system, which features strengthened subframes, fully adjustable and rose-jointed front lower arms and rebuilt rear arms with new bushes, which are fitted to the subframe with camber and toe-adjustable plates. The original rubber cone suspension system has been replaced with a coil spring conversion kit, and Bilstein rally-spec dampers have been fitted with lowered front top mounts. At the front, braking is provided via a set of four-pot alloy brake callipers with Cooper S discs and Ferodo racing pads, while mini-fin drums are fitted at the rear with braided brake lines.

The car’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in January 2020, after its new engine had been run in for 400 miles, which consisted of an engine oil and oil filter change. The car has long since been exempt from mandatory MOT testing. All four wheels are fitted with Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 tyres in size 165/ 70 R10

The car will be accompanied by its certificate of authenticity from the BMIHT, a new vehicle passport from Motorsport UK stating that the car is eligible for competition in Category 1 stage rallies, and a number of invoices for the car’s replacement parts and maintenance.

Fully converted for motorsport, this Mk1 Morris Mini Super Deluxe is now a charming and exciting rally car, fitted with a number of desirable performance-enhancing components and is presented in very good overall condition. Supplied with a current competition passport, it represents an excellent entry point into historic rallying, making it a particularly appealing prospect for budding racers.
