Moto Guzzi Quota 1100es, 1999, Good condition, 90, 000km
I acquired this bike in 2015 when it had 71, 500km. Previous owner was a big GS fan and it wasn’t really for him, bit of detective work (actually date and mileage written on the oil filter revealed it had only done a couple of hundred miles in the previous three years and he had used it rarely. Originally started life in France, parallel import in 2011. It was running fine when I got it but as you do with Guzzis (I have a couple of older ones as well) a period of shakedown getting rid of the cobwebs, as follows:
An oil flush and oil/ filter change then regular oil filter every year.
New pads
Replace the original headlight (plastic scorched and reflector ineffective, apparently they all do that) with Yamaha item
Added CREE riding lights on crash bars
Fitted clock with integral dual USB charging
Heated grips
Replace rear crank seal (subsequently realised oil was from crank vent, that is now correctly routed)
Hepco & Becker pannier frames
Replaced front fork seals
Modified sidestand to non “suicidestand”
Removed, overhauled and regreased swingarm and linkage, refitted with custom rubber sheet splash guard
Fuel tank, cleaned, flushed and electric valves overhauled, remaining fuel system cleaned and flushed. Throttle body set up using guzzidiag software, (TPS replaced by previous owner).
New battery
New starter motor (after I realised the battery was actually fine and the starter motor was on the way out).
New front wheel bearings last MoT
Mistral stainless crossover
Other bits
This one has the Akront rims, apparently the ones to have as some of the other Guzzi rims have been prone to cracking.
If it makes asking price it will include a spare ECU 15M and the lonelec lead needed to access it. You can then experiment with ECU settings if you are so inclined. I was going to but never got around to it (it kind of just worked and I just kept riding it).
I bought this bike to be the “workhorse” something it has done remarkably well. Last proper trip was a 2000 mile jaunt through France where it performed perfectly and was the only bike in the group not to have “issues”. I would be keeping it but have just finished building a T3 for a similar role and I only really need one touring bike. To be honest it was a close call on which one to keep but I am getting on a bit and to be honest it is a big bike to move around my garage. It is an excellent old school big block Guzzi tourer. Do not buy this if you have aspirations of going off road. Tyres are both fairly new.
Main thing that needs sorting is the seat cover which is a bit cracked, I normally use a sheepskin which hides this. You can get replacement covers relatively cheaply.
Overall condition, not concourse by any means. I bought this bike to be used and not polished so some patina. Paint on the engine cases and other aluminium bits is a bit scrappy, a few small dings in the paint. That said it does scrub up fairly well.
Located in Devizes, Wiltshire, mileage will be going up, fresh MoT.
