Bristol was another well -known name in the aeronautical industry which found its production skills focussed on automobiles once WW2 hostilities had ended. Quality of the product was carried over not only in terms of engineering but in overall standard of finish.
The first 400 series benefited from the acquisition of the German BMW engine blueprints and the first cars were capable of 100mph in comfort.
This historic Bristol was, we understand, the very first 411 Series IV produced, and was the actual motor car used for the Avon Tyres Safety Wheel blowout test, driven by none other than Tony Crook himself. It was the prototype for the 603 when it was subsequently fitted with the later 5. 9 litre V8 engine, which is still retained today.
Interestingly, the previous owner purchased ABW 251M directly from Bristol Cars in 2010. Boasting dark blue metallic coachwork with a sumptuous grey/ blue leather trim plus lovely walnut fascia and door cappings, The Bristol is also fitted with alloy road wheels which are believed to be original to the motor car. The bodywork is described as very good and paintwork appears to have been resprayed at some point. The light blue leather is original with slight signs of ageing and small cracks to the front seats. It was re-Connolised in 2018 in the correct colour. All instruments are present and working as we are told is the air conditioning system.
The Bristol is only coming to the market due to the current owner’s ill health; the annual mileage in the last six years appears to have been less than three thousand in total, which is explained by the fact that it formed part of a collection of prestige motor cars. Some re-commissioning is thus thought desirable before serious use.
The 411 comes with a current V5C registration certificate and two past MOT test certificates to September 2020, plus some invoices for servicing, a little paintwork and the re-Connolising. Spare parts are included in the sale.
