Craner Classics are delighted to present this stunning Daimler V8 250 in Opalescent Silver Blue with its elegant grey interior, a rare and striking combination in these magnifient luxury cars. This is the sort of car bank managers and other wealthy people drove for its mechanical prowess, its executive interior, and its majestic good looks. Up close this Daimler is a great example of a well-preserved limousine. Everything about it suggests harmony and purpose. The car's external appearance is magnificent - lovely long sweeping curves, everything in proportion.
Only produced from October 1967 to 1969, these V8-250s were a minor face-lift of the standard Daimler 2. 5 V8 saloon, with a few tweaks to underline their superiority from the standard model - slimmed-down bumpers and over-riders, negative-earth electricals, an alternator instead of a dynamo, bringing the marque into the modern world and performance-wise, twin air cleaners for the twin carburettors.
This is the sort of car that ferried government ministers and captains of industry about their business, and for that reason it was designed to excel in every department, and that class shines through a half-century later.
I'm almost embarrassed to say that the car is now 50 years old, but it just makes the engineering genius that went into it all the more impressive. Even today, the still turns heads.
These V8 250s were the first Daimler cars to be based on the Jaguar platform, but the last to feature a genuine Daimler engine. When they were produced they were highly regarded for the hemispherical head design which was made famous in the Daimler SP250 sports car.
The car boasts a 2548cc V8 engine, and with these cars the automatic Borg Warner gearbox (only the best for Daimler!) was the norm, although some manuals were produced in the last couple of years of production. To add to the elite driving experience, this car was fitted at the factory with power-assisted steering, always a plus in such a solidly-built car.
The coachwork is in fine order, the chromework is superb, the headlights clear, everything works as it should. Before starting the car it's hard not to sit and admire the walnut dashboard for a few seconds before driving away - for me it's one of the car's best features. The split front seats with armrests also add comfort. This particular car has been fitted with rear seat belts and so is family-friendly as well. The interior is in excellent condition, including the headlining, having been owned and maintained to a very high standard by an enthusiast of the brand, who has been a long-standing friend and customer of Craner Classics.
In 1965 Autocar achieved a top speed in a Daimler V8-250 of 112mph. Yet although it's a capable car, it's the luxurious driving experience itself which make it stand head and shoulders above a great many cars of its era.
