The Heritage Certificate confirms it was built on 3 December 1956, and I have been reliably informed that this was the first day of RHD Countryman production, so this may well be the oldest remaining in the UK, if not the world. It also retains its original, transferable, number plate (from West Sussex).
The V5 indicates 2 former keepers. There are a few of old MOTs and tax discs that indicate the Countryman spent much of its life on the Isle of Wight. Although no longer necessary, it is also currently MOTd – expiring April 2022.
Purchased by me 5 years ago as an abandoned project, it has now been fully rebuilt and is in super condition. All aspects of the Countryman have been addressed - engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, wiring loom, plus all steelwork and paintwork, re-chroming, re-trimming and more. I have a comprehensive file of receipts for work done and parts bought.
It is mildly upgraded and fitted with a 1098 engine with unleaded head, later “rib-case” gearbox and a 3. 9 differential, so it keeps up well with traffic. It also stops too, as it has Midget brakes all round – discs at the front and hydraulic brakes at the rear. These mods are very discrete but are easily reversed if desired as it is just simple spanner work.
A growing family and new dog mean we need I need to rationalise the “fleet”. Certainly the best available and I believe fairly priced, as I don’t believe you could build a better one for less.
