An honest Austin Healey 3000 MK III (Phase 2) BJ8

Price: €59, 995 Year: 1965 kilometers: 294 *

History File – Our Austin-Healey 3000 MK III (Phase 2) LHD example – chassis HBJ 8L 32758 - was originally exported to the United States of America in 1965 and would return to Europe, imported to Germany in the mid 1980‘s. Following a restoration period, the private importer would eventually sell the car in 1989 where it would remain in the same family until today. The original Sales Contract is still in the extensive history file dated 28. 08. 1989, along with a host of other receipts and invoices collected over the thirty year plus ownership. The new Bosch Workshop owners regularly maintained and indeed used the car accordingly with just one of the highlights participating in the 1996 North Cape Challenge Rally, covering almost 6000 kilometers. An original Halda Tripmaster is still fitted in the glovebox. * Recently, a new kilometer Tacho has replaced the Miles version for ease of continental driving. It’s estimated that the car has covered some 15, 000 miles in the families 3 decade plus tenure. All in all, it’s a well looked after example that has actually been enthusiastically driven instead of parked in a garage and admired from underneath a protective cover!

Exterior – The car is finished in the classic combination of solid black over red which was painted in the mid 1990’s and still holds up well today considering the work took place some 25 years ago. There is a small ‘paint run’ defect on the top of the bonnet which occurred following the respray but, despite the lengthy period since, it has not worsened at all. The car comes with a full (almost new) mohair full tonneau, along with PVC smaller version when the roof is down. Chrome mesh guards adorn the headlights and suit the car well to accompany the nicely presented chrome bumpers.

Interior – A “room” black in colour contrasted with flashes of classic wood in the form of twin dash coverings and a wonderful patina Moto-Lita steering wheel. All in all, it’s a great place to be with the leather, both door-cards and carpets all presenting well. Interestingly, the car is radio prepared with an electric antenna but, with no radio. As previously mentioned, the glove box is holding an original Halda Tripmaster confirming the cars enthusiastic pervious owners.

Engine & Transmission – in 1992 the new owners dispatched the block (Nr: 29 K R UH 3156) to engine specialist Gerrit Meijerink B. V. in the Netherlands, who completed a full engine overhaul with the original invoice still in the cars file. Interestingly, the company still exists and continues to offer superb work today. At the time, it was decided to fit a 5 speed Getrag gearbox to the rejuvenated engine which now offers a different kind of driving but, still exciting, none the less. Additionally, a side-pipe exhaust has been fitted which kicks out a wonderful tune; the original exhaust is available and – upon request – can be retrospectively re-fitted.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes - the painted wires are covered with quality Fredestein Sprint Classic 185 HR15 91H quality tyres with ample tread available. There is plenty of appropriate braking power of the period.
