Facel Vega Facel II 1962 For Sale

Facel Vega Facel II (1962)

An unique opportunity to buy one of earliest Facel II’s. The car on offer, chassis number HK2-A-102, was the third Facel II to leave the factory in Paris and the first Facel II ever to be fitted with the automatic gearbox. The car has matching numbers, is totally complete and in driving condition. It does need some attention, both cosmetic as technical and is therefore a perfect candidate for a full restoration. But could also be driven as a daily.

Facel II

The Facel II is seen by many as the most beautiful and desirable of the big Facel Vega’s. This pure Grand Tourer with its elegant lines and powerful Chrysler V8, was one of the highlights of car manufacturing in the sixties. It was also one of the fastest cars of its age, competing against Maserati’s, Aston Martins and Ferraris.

In 1959 Jean Daninos and his team started work on a replacement of the Facel HK500, that saw declining sales. Based on the same tubular frame, with disc brakes all around and fitted with the same Chrysler V8, the Facel II, as the car was named, had a different design. But maintaining the special luxurious feel that so characterizes Facel Vega’s. Production started in 1962, but two years later the company went bankrupt with only 182 Facel II’s produced.

The third

The Facel II on offer was produced in the beginning of 1962, right after the prototypes and chassis numbers 100 and 101. It was the first Facel II to be fitted with the 3-speed Torqueflite Automatic Gearbox and was originally in “Gregio Glacé” with a “Rouge Vif” interior. The car was sold in Germany by the German importer Becker in 1962, were in 1990 the car was sold to famous Danish automotive writer Peter M. Larsen. A few years later he sold the car to a Dutch enthusiast who had the car partially restored and registered on Dutch plates in 1997.

After some years driving, he decided to sell the car in 2015 to a new Belgium owner, who planned to have the car totally redone, but never got to it. The last few years the Facel II only drove 300 kilometres, so is in need of some repairs. It being one of the earliest Facel II’s, the first ever with the automatic gearbox and totally complete, this car is an excellent candidate for a full restoration. Something that we at JB Classic Cars can off course provide.
