1969 Wolseley 16/60 Automatic SOLD

First registered: 1. 4. 1969
VIN Chassis Number: WHS381785M

A wonderful example of the Wolseley 16/ 60, the high-end Farina family saloon from the 1960s. It comes in this sophisticated two-tone colour combination and as the photos show the exterior is in excellent order. The red leather interior is also superb, nicely set off by the wooden dashboard and trim and pristine roof lining. The engine is the four-cylinder B-Series 1600cc so popular back in its day, capable of 80mph according to early reviews.

The condition of the underside, which is rock solid, suggests the car has much of its life garaged.

The bodywork is in fine order, with sharp, well-defined and corrosion-free arches and sills all round, and good rubber and chrome trim all over the car. This is a striking-looking car, thanks to the Issigonis influence, and greatly helped its well-proportioned front end and plentiful chromework, and the overall solid yet sleek look of the car. Bootspace is quite ample for a family getaway, with plenty of room inside as well.

One of this car's most important features for many will be the 3-speed automatic Borg-Warner gearbox. Borg-Warner for anyone who doesn't know, then as now, make what are generally accepted to be the world's best automatic gearboxes. And this one, in keeping with the mechanicals of the car throughout is no exception. The driving quality of this particular car is absolutely marvellous, probably the best of any Wolseley 16/ 60 we've seen. It's just so smooth. It drivrimees dead straight, it is simply a very well looked after example, with a real tight feel to the ride quality. The deep seats add to the premium experience, and the rear seat belts that have been fitted at some point are also a welcome addition.

The engine bay is well-nigh spotless, and the chrome rocker cover sits gleaming as the centrepiece. The car offers a better charging system than originally courtesy of an alernator rather than the original dynamo, giving peace of mind in today's stop-start traffic. The car by the way has no problem whatsoever keeping up with modern traffic.

The car comes with a binder of service records and a vintage workshop manual for good effect. Also included is the edition of Classics magazine (August 2003) which featured this very car as Number 5 in its all-time list of favourites from the first 75 editions of the magazine. A real testimony to the car's worth!

These have now become very rare and are not coming up for sale like they used to. For this reason, we strongly advise calling by phone rather than messaging to avoid disappointment. This is a great car that stands out in very many respects.
