Immaculate show winning 1950 Tele-Rigid AJS Model 18 "Daisy" For Sale

REDUCED TO SELL…….

It is with considerable regret that I have to put up for sale, my beautiful and much loved AJS...... "Daisy"..... This is a very, very reluctant sale, due to having no time to ride as I now have grandchildren.

I have had the bike for ten years. There are only three former keepers of this motorcycle since March 1950.

Description:

Year: 1950
Engine Size: 500cc
Manufacturer: AJS
Gears: Four-speed manual
Model: 18 (Tele-rigid)
Colour: Black
Date of 1st Registration: 13/ 03/ 1950
Original buff log book confirming engine and frame numbers
Original egistration: Non-transferable
V5C present and showing correct frame and engine numbers
Mileage:49384 (obviously not confirmed, but looks correct given enclosed MOT’s etc)

Here is a 1950 AJS Model 18, which was fully, yet sympathetically restored some years ago.

Daisy’s engine has been fully rebuilt (with lots of receipts and photographs to confirm). This includes:

On 15/ 1/ 2015, Motorcycle Restoration Restorer reports the following:
• Inspection of front forks were found to be in good order (no action required)
• Inspection of clutch, primary cases were dismantled and overhauled
• Reassembled springs and replaced to correct position
• Original push rod oil seals leaking. Same overhauled and new seals inserted
• Cylinder head removed / cylinder removed. Cylinder then re-honed and replaced with new base gasket
• Piston de-coked and cylinder head de-coked
• Valves removed, cleaned on lathe and lapped back in their seats

** (Photographs of above will be included for confirmation. Work completed by a local and extremely well respected, reputable classic British motorcycle engineer)

Then further work completed....
• De-coke and top end overhaul (2020)
• Re-lining of brake shoes (2020)
• Various new seals and rubbers
• New Amal pre-concentric carb – cost £234: (2015). This will see the bike good for another 80 years, if not longer
• Two brand new high quality Halcyon bar-end mirrors

There has been a lot of money spent on this girl, she is a beautiful motorcycle, who has been treated as a member of the family throughout the years.

Daisy has won a number of classic North East motorcycle events when I showed her, including the following:
1. 2017 Classics in Corbridge: Best Classic Motorcycle
2. 2017 “Classics at the Castle”: Best Motorcycle in Show
3. 2018 Accepted and included in the private entrants show section of the prestigious Stafford Classic Motorcycle Show
4. 2019 Tyne Valley Classic Motorcycle Club: Special Award Category Winner

I stopped showing her in 2019, but I will include all trophies and photographs Daisy has won on her sale, when I did show her during the years 2017-2019 as they deserve to go with her to her new owner.

I have two short YouTube videos of her running just prior to this posting ( just cut and paste on to the YouTube site to listen):

I have not seen a better AJS Model 18 than this. Daisy drives wonderfully, and she kicks over first / second time... everytime !.

Daisy is not concourse , and she has a couple of age-related marks, but you’ll have to look hard to find them. She also leaks a little oil, but if I live to this age, I guess, so will I !....... she is not a new restoration. The restoration has been completed over a number of years, but she is the best AJS Model 18 I’ve seen, and also the best AJS Model 18 a number of judges have seen, hence her trophy wins.

I’ve polished this bike literally, within an inch of her life every week over the past 11 years, and she certainly deserves to be ridden more that she does.

She has always been stored in a heated, fully carpeted garage.

The new owner can either collect Daisy him / herself, or arrange their own courier and I will ensure that the bike is safely given to the courier for onward delivery to the new owner. The bike also comes with receipts of work done and a number of spare parts/ owner manuals for the bike.

A wonderful opportunity to own a beautiful bike in excellent condition which will only appreciate in value.

Take a look at the photographs of Daisy,...... they really do speak for themselves...... you will not be disappointed.

PRICE: £6, 495 (NO OFFERS)

**** STRICTLY NO RETURNS AND NO GUARANTEE WILL BE OFFERED GIVEN THE AGE OF THE MOTORCYCLE ****

Viewing highly recommended (located in Blyth, Northumberland)

I’m in no hurry to sell this girl, if she sells she sells, but if she doesnt, I'm more than happy to keep hold of her, so PLEASE...... no offers and only contact me if you are interested in purchasing the bike.. She is worth every penny ).

To be sold within the UK ONLY...... and buyer MUST collect or arrange their own courier for delivery.
(Bank transfer funds will obviously have to be cleared prior to collection.)

Please only contact me if you are 100% genuinely interested in purchasing the bike.

Thank you for your understanding and interest.

Best wishes.

John

One of the best flat tankers out there, the side valve 350 is often over looked in favour of the "Big Port" OHV version but in reality the sidevalve model is plenty powerful enough for a machine of this age to be enjoyed within vintage motorcycling expectations. This example has original engine, frame and gearbox ...

1928 is the last year that AJS motorcycles were fitted with flat tanks, in 1929 saddle tanks are introduced and consequently motorcycles suddely get the "modern" looks. The 1930 range sports no less than four new models with inclined engines; another noticeable point for 1930 is that the old familiar black and gold finish ...
