1954 A40 Somerset A beautiful example For Sale

Austin A40 Somerset Saloon

I have owned this beautiful and highly original Austin A40 Somerset Saloon for over 33 years, my Austin A40 has provided me with trouble free miles and gained affection wherever we have travelled.
This Austin A40 Somerset is highly original and under my ownership I have carried out regular services and carried out an MOT most years.
The car was repainted in its original green paint to a very high standard in 2014, apart from being repainted I believe it’s very original.
It has very low owners and was first registered in June 1954 and since then having just three previous owners.

The Austin A40 Somerset has a folder of documentation and service invoices, Old MOT certificates that date back to 1976.
The original service manual, Austin running and maintenance instructions, period newspaper advertisement, Austin owners club material, photos, and other documentation to go with the car.

The exterior of the A40 has been repainted and presents beautifully, there are no dents or scratches or nasty filler to be found, the original bright work in some places could benefit from being re-chromed again this is all original and does not detract from the car’s appearance.

The interior is very original, the seats are in very good condition with no nasty rips and the switch gear all works as intended.

The 1200cc straight 4 pushrod engine and gearbox are original items, the car starts on the button and is a joy to drive.

The Austin A40 appeared in 1948, replacing pre-war models such as the Austin Eight, Ten and Twelve. Available as either the four-door Devon or the short-lived two-door Dorset, the A40 retained a separate chassis and incorporated independent front suspension. Styling showed a distinct American influence. The A40 became the Somerset in February 1952 and was restyled to match the A70 Hereford and A30. Hydraulic brakes and a column gear change were now standard, previously only available on the Devon in 1951.
A total of 166, 063 A40 Somerset saloons were built between 1952 and 1954, along with 7, 243 drophead coupes. By 1954 the Somerset looked dated and a completely new A40, the Cambridge, with unitary chassis was introduced. This shared the B-series engine with the rival Morris Oxford, following the merger of Austin and Morris to form the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1952.
