Just out of long-term dry storage where it was laid up in 1995
Red but originally Inca Yellow (paint code 94) with black houndstooth trim (code C11)
Still has its original ‘FM’ code 1500 engine, which starts and runs with some fuel directly in the carburettors or a spray of easy start.
The bodywork is very straight indeed with nice panel gaps all round and I don’t believe that it has been restored previously, which means everything is as it should be. Still has the original steel bonnet, rare steel front quarter valances and even its period number plates.
There is some rust as you can see in the photos but it looks solid in all the right places and is far better than most projects I have seen for sale, making it a very viable recommission/ restoration project. At some point during storage someone spilt some silver paint on the bonnet, which is what you can see in the photos.
I believe the car was probably waxoyled at some point in the past (there are small grommets in the sills etc), preserving it in the condition it is today.
I expect that serious buyers will want to come and view the car first hand to see exactly what’s what but I’m very happy to provide any additional photos you need if you want to consider buying it without viewing in person.
Equally, I can recommend a local transport company who could deliver the car to you safely or I’d be very happy to accommodate your own collection arrangements. The clutch is currently stuck but the car rolls easily for loading.
Overall, this is a very original, unmolested and most importantly complete Spitfire, which is a great basis for what should be an easy restoration. It’s really hard to find nice original Spitfires like this now. As far as I’m aware it is in completely standard spec apart from the wood rimmed steering wheel and colour change.
Being over 40 years old it’s now eligible for MOT and road tax exemptions.
Please remember that this is being sold as a recommission/ restoration project and cannot be driven home as it is.
Any questions are welcome.
