This beautiful R90S has 67, 538 km on the clock. As you can see on the pictures, really a beautiful car. The BMW has German papers but import into the Netherlands can be arranged by us. The BMW can be viewed by appointment in Someren-Eind, Netherlands.

The R90S type 247 "airhead" engine was a tappet-rod OHV, two valves per cylinder, air-cooled flat-twin "boxer" unit. The engine was closely based on the R75/ 5, with the same stroke, but with a larger bore, for a displacement of 898 cc. The R90S weighed 215 kg (474 lb) and had a five-speed gearbox with shaft drive. The first R90S models had a two-tone paint job of "Smoke Black/ Silver" with self-adhesive gold pinstripes. Feedback from unimpressed customers caused BMW to revert to hand-painted stripes. Later R90S models were also available in two-tone "Daytona Orange" with red pinstripes. The R90S had a newly designed saddle, with a small "ducktail" fairing that provided (in addition to a toolbox under the seat) a small storage area for lightweight items such as waterproofs. Standard equipment included a complete tool kit, hand pump, first aid kit and even a small towel with an embroidered BMW logo.

The R90S had a small bikini fairing that housed two analogue instruments: a clock and a voltmeter. The 238 watt alternator was later upgraded to 250 watts. An adjustable hydraulic steering damper was adjusted manually via a button on the steering head. Suspension was by telescopic forks with long travel and twin rear dampers, the rear dampers being adjustable for preload (the only suspension adjustment available). While other BMW boxers had a Bing slide constant velocity carburettor, the R90S was equipped with gas pump Dell'Orto carburettors. The R90S engine had a compression ratio of 9. 5:1, while the less sporty R90/ 6 had a ratio of 9:1.

The alloy wheels were spoked and had inner tubes. The front brake had two 230 mm discs and ATE calipers; the rear brake was a 200 mm SLS drum. The R90S and the other BMW "/ 6" series front brakes had an unusual system where a master cylinder on the top frame tube was activated by a cable from the front brake lever. This system was supposed to protect the master cylinder in case of a crash, but later "/ 7" machines had a conventional Brembo master cylinder mounted on the handlebars.
