Originally supplied by Speeds Mercedes, Chesterfield on 1st January 1992, it was kept the obligatory two years by the first owner, after which it was sold by Cragside Mercedes, Harrogate under Mercedes Signature used car scheme on 16th December 1994 to it's long term owner of over 20 years. This particular gentleman deserves a medal for the way he cosseted and cared for this car. Incidentally, the car came to me through a member of the owners club.
The condition is both immaculate, and more incredibly all totally original. As far as both I, and my paintwork man (who has over 25 years experience in the trade) can see, it's never had any paintwork, nor does it need any, as it still shines like the proverbial new pin. Interior is also equally as immaculate and it still even has that "new" smell about it. As tends to be the way the with 190D's, specification is best described as "adequate" with very little to go wrong. There's everything you need, and nothing you don't, which is a theme reflected throughout this car.
Mechanically, the car has been serviced on the dot, with all important oil changes having been carried out more than required. As such this 190D wants for absolutely nothing at all, and as I've just had the car serviced, and MOT'd (naturally with no advisories), no immediate expenditure, over and above the usual fuel, road tax and insurance, should be needed.
The vehicles comes with a very extensive service history, which in itself is something to behold, with 21 entries in the service booklet, which is accompanied by a large A4 ring binder full of invoices for work and servicing carried out, and also includes every single old MOT certificate to further verify the low mileage.
As you would quite rightly expect of a low mileage 190D that's been cosseted to this degree, the drive is almost like it was when it left the dealership almost 24 years ago. It's also incredibly good on fuel too, and 45-50mpg is easily achievable. Although performance is leisurely in comparison to more modern diesel engined vehicles, the manual gearbox allows you to maximise the performance, and it will happily cruise at 70mph, and comfortably keeps up with today's traffic, but without getting you into trouble; lets face it where can you actually go fast these days anyway!. This is also a "proper old school" diesel, and the engine used in the 190D is one of Mercedes' legendary OM6** series of engines (OM601 in this case) and as such there's with very little to go wrong; it's a fair assumption that it will still be running perfectly, when all those modern diesels have died their almost inevitable "electronic deaths".
Good W201 190's in general are becoming ever difficult to find, especially since interest in the model range has been recently bolstered recently by what is being written in the press, extolling their virtue as probably the best engineered vehicle ever made; that's some accolade, but one that is entirely deserved in my opinion; I certainly can't think of a more "complete" car. As such finding a low mileage diesel with service history is becoming a virtually impossible task these days, and it's getting to the point of late that when exceptional cars like this leave my tenure, I'm often left wondering where the next one will come from.
So, in summary, if you're looking for one of these, I really don't think there's many, if any, better examples currently on offer.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at http://www.mtsv.co.uk
Any other questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or on 07976 280738. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.
Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
