This E39 528i SE Touring was a special order "Individual" model, and bought new in 1999 by it's only owner from Prestons BMW Colne (now Lloyd BMW) at a staggering cost of almost £48,000, and took almost four months to be delivered, from the date of the order. It features a list of options seldom seen on the E39 Series, some of them incredibly expensive too. The Nappa leather interior is just something to simply behold, and looks almost like its straight out of Bentley or Rolls Royce. Fifteen years on, it's still in amazing condition too, one could say almost as new, thanks to the car never having be used to carry children, dogs or loads, and the majority of the miles covered has been between the UK and Switzerland.

The whole car is just totally pristine, and really is an abject lesson on how to properly look after a car, and how in turn it will look after you. The only owner, a mature gentleman, was super fastidious about his car, having the car serviced on the dot by the supplying BMW Dealership, and insisted it was only worked on by their Master Technician, using the best synthetic oils and lubricants. It's also only ever been run on Shell V-Power petrol, which again has paid dividends. It's also been kept in an underground parking garage throughout most of it's life, which has further helped to preserve it.

The drive quality is just sublime and is typical of BMW of this era; this is a precision engineered machine, with a silky smooth drive train, pin sharp and precise handling with the now legendary BMW M52 straight six providing plenty of smooth power, at the same time as providing that trademark "straight six soundtrack" that says "I mean business". I went out for a good drive in this car on Thursday; I originally intended to be out for just half an hour, but that turned into two hours; this car as is so addictive once you're behind the wheel.

The mileage…well I've asked a few visitors to my premises to guess the mileage of this car, and without exception they've all said it has to be sub 30,000, given the condition. I won't dress it up like some sellers by saying it's covered "x" number of miles per year, but it is, as of today (12/03/16); 172,140 miles which is actually average mileage for a vehicle of this age. Notwithstanding that, this car has really forced me to somewhat rethink my attitude and ethos to higher mileage vehicles….this vehicle clearly demonstrates how good a car can be if its looked after properly, by people who understand these vehicles. Just as a measure of how good this is, anyone who knows what I do, will know sometimes my vehicles can spend months, or in some cases a year or more in preparation. All I've had to do to this fine vehicle is fit a pair of new number plates, as it had carried a valuable cherished registration all it's life, which the owner transferred off. In over a decade of doing this, that's never happened!.

This is a truly outstanding example of what I think, was the last properly engineered 5-Series, and I'd say the E39 is probably the best version of BMW's long running 5-series range. These are truly premium product, and far removed from the mass market "posh rep mobiles" today's 5-Series have become, and which in my opinion can't hold a torch to quality and engineering excellence of the E39, or the E34 before it. I really wanted to keep this one myself, but its just far too nice to let kids in, with their with dirty football boots etc, and really needs to be preserved and cosseted by a sympathetic enthusiast.


Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have.
