A ' modern classic' if ever there was one, Porsche's long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. The latter's rear-engined layout was retained, but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the bodyshell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favour of a more modern McPherson Strut and trailing arm arrangement.
The first of countless upgrades came in 1966 with the introduction of the 911S. Easily distinguishable by its stylish fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels, the 'S' featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp, the increased urge raising top speed by 10mph to 135mph. A lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1969 improved the 911's sometimes wayward handling, and then in 1970 the engine underwent the first of many enlargements - to 2.2 litres. All 911variants received the 2.4 litre unit for 1972, by which time the 911S featured a five-speed gearbox and 6" wheel rims as standard.
This superb and desirable Porsche 911 2.4 S Coupe left Stuttgart in 1972, for the sunny and dry climate of Italy. Its first owner ordering it in Albert Blue with Beige Leatherette interior. The colour combination the car is still bearing nowadays.
We understand that the first owner kept the car until 1985, when a Mr Elio Rizzini, a Porsche Collector from Brescia bought the car to add to his collection. In 1987, a close friend of his and owner of a steel fabrication company, Mr Luigi Bettinsoli from Marcheno. Mr Bettinsoli enjoyed driving the Porsche between Marcheno and the shore of Lago di Garda, where he had a weekend residence. He kept and mantained the car until 1999 when a Mr Patrizio Adobati, from Alzano Lombardo, bought it. During Mr Adobati's ownership, we understand that the car was overhauled and resprayed.
More recently, Mr Adobati passed the car onto one of his relative who became now the last owner of this superb Porsche.
Recently, the interior has been restored and the car has received a complete renovation. This is probably the most desirable of all the 911 2.4S, with the 72' specification external oil filler cap. Both the engine and chassis numbers are matching according to the Porsche Factory Records.
The car comes with its Porsche Authenticity Certificate. This Porsche is definitely a sure investment for the years to come and a splendid addition to a discerning Porsche collection.
With just two owners from new, having covered just over 36,000 miles and benefitting from a recent engine rebuild by Porsche specialists EPorsche, this is one of the most exciting ‘G-Series’ Porsche.....
