This is probably one of the best W124 Multivalve Diesels currently available. Supplied new by Greenoaks Mercedes of Maidenhead, on 1st February 1994 to its first owner for the not so insignificant sum of £30,019.25 (original purchase invoice in history file) and who kept the car until 2013. The ensuing service history, documentation and provenance that comes with this vehicle is second to none, and documents just about everything that has ever been done to this beautiful car. To find this amount of history with a Mercedes Diesel of this era is very rare. I could start listing it's entire contents, but it would start to resemble a chapter from a novel and start to bore the most committed reader, but to summarise every area of concern any discerning buyer could possibly ask about, would almost certainly result in a favourable answer.
This is also a car that's passed through my hands previously, with me having sold it late last year to a retired Police Traffic Officer. However soon after he purchased the vehicle from me, he took a job as a coach driver. As a result, he found he had very little time to drive the car, covering just a few hundred miles during his tenure. As a result, he took the decision to sell, and subsequently asked me if I wanted to buy it back. As you can imagine, given the car, for me the decision was an absolute no brainer!.
The condition of the this vehicle is simply amazing….just look at the pictures, which I think they speak for themselves. It's true many W124's look great on the surface, but with these cars, especially as they continue to age, it's what you can't see that should really be of real concern. I've shown a few pictures of some of these areas, which are incredibly well preserved on this car; a theme continued throughout.
Mechanically, its generally, and quite rightly accepted, that any W124 Diesel is pretty much bombproof, however because of this ultra durable nature, it obviously means they can hide neglect incredibly well. So, to find an example like this that has not only been correctly maintained, but converted and cosseted by a fastidious (some would say obsessive) long term owner, for many years, shows how good these cars can really be. The maintenance this car has undergone throughout its life is directly reflected in the way it looks and drives, and as such it feels like a car a fraction of its age. Personally I'd say it's probably the quickest and most powerful W124 E300D Multivalve I've driven.
In addition to this vehicles' condition and history, what also sets it apart from the rest is the very low genuine mileage, and also its high specification. Most of these cars, have now covered very high mileages (which they're well capable of) and because of their high relative cost when new, generally had quite a basic specification; most buyer blew their entire budget just buying the basic car!. This vehicle is quite different in both respects having covered just 86,000 miles and also features expensive, and desirable optional extras such as Self Leveling Suspension, Outside Temperature Gauge, Cruise Control, and Air-conditioning, none of which were exactly cheap at the time.
