Anyone who knows me, and knows what I do, will tell you I'm one of the W201's 190's most enthusiastic fans and advocates, and long been a believer that the W201 series will go down in automotive history as one of the best engineered mass produced cars of all time. Having been involved with these cars for quite some time, and worked on more of them than I can remember, the level of detail, build quality and engineering, never ceases to impress me, and even now I find things that still amaze me, and confirm my theory that just about every base was covered when designing and building the W201 series. I think this is largely down to the fact that the 190 series was Mercedes' first foray into the lucrative compact executive class, and having spent over DM 600 Million in development, failure just wasn't an option, as it would have brought down the entire company. The W201 had to be good, and how right they got it!.
I would imagine now, outside Mercedes Main dealerships that were around in the 80's and 90's, I've probably seen more W201's of every variant than most, and thought I'd seen it all until this car came onto my radar; it's simply incredible and what's more amazing is it's a completely un-restored example, and original in every respect. I would suggest with some degree of certainty that's its one, if not the best W201's still in existence.
Supplied new by Rivervale of Brighton to a "more mature" lady, who paid £22,057.42 back in August 1992 (that's well over £40,000 in today's money), who quite frankly barely used it, but still had it regularly serviced by the supplying main dealership up to 2006, and then by John Haynes Auto Technics. The car was then sold to a Professor in Chichester, who owned the car for about a year, covering just 2,000 miles, before it found its way into the hands of a collector and Mercedes Club member, from whom I bought it, as well as a very low mileage W124 E-Class. Its crystal clear by the stunningly good condition, this car has been garage kept.
The car has been regularly serviced throughout its life, details are as follows:
05/08/1992 - Delivery Miles - PDI - Rivervale of Brighton
07/08/1992 - Delivery Miles - Vehicle Registered

To back up the above, as well as the all important service book, there is a very large A4 Lever arch file, which details the vehicle's life and goes from brochures, to its order form and sales invoice, right though service receipts, old MOT certificates and tax disc, you really couldn't ask for anything more.
I concede some people may have concerns about ultra low mileage vehicles not being used enough, which I can well understand, however you'll never get an un-restored vehicle in this kind of stunning condition, if it had have been driven more. It's a simple fact that a vehicle will inevitably pick up all the usual blemishes the more it's used. At the end of that day, as I tell many of my customers, you simply can't have a low mileage 25 year old vehicle without at least some periods of inactivity. The good news here is that's somewhat mitigated by regular servicing and sparing use, that have kept things moving just enough, and as a result the vehicle still drives as you would imagine a new 190E would have done back in 1992.
So there you have it, as I keep saying this is quite probably one, if not the best 190E's in the UK. I really don't have to go into detail describing the condition of this car, as there's little to report; it's almost flawless both inside and out. There's actually three sets of mats in the front, so that's mats, on mats, on mats, which will give you some idea of the esteem this car has been held in. I very much doubt they'll be another like this one as it's got the "holy trinity" as far as I'm concerned, which is; amazing condition, very, very low mileage and extensive provenance; it's rare you find all three in a vehicle of this age.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at http://www.mtsv.co.uk
