1978 Midget ~ Excellent ~ SOLD

Up for sale here is my Red MG Midget. I bought this car in January 2016 as a non runner. The car was last on the road in 2007 and what attracted me to the car was the fact that it had undergone a considerable amount of restoration off and on over the years and not an insignificant amount of money and time has been spent in getting the car to the condition that it is now. Other than getting the car going and the fitting of a new steering rack and ends, the car was presented for an MOT in June 2016 and passed 1st time with no advisories. That said it cost me £500 all the same.
Now to the car I hope that the pictures do the car justice and show just what good condition the car is in, The car has had a full respray which is very good obviously not workshop standard but other than a slight paint run on one of the doors very presentable indeed. There is no rust evident on the car and the underneath is solid and under sealed. A set of minilite replicas set the car off to a “T” There are far too many upgrades to remember on this car suffice to say an awful lot has either been replaced or refurbed. The dash has been powder coated and nicely detailed in black and red with polished switch gear and chrome. A roll bar has been fitted and padded which can easily be removed if required and the hood is water tight and damage free . The chrome “Midget “kick plates” round of a very pleasant interior. There is no damage to the seats which appear to have been recovered at some stage in its life.
The engine bay again has undergone the Powder coating and Chrome treatment and is a pleasant surprise when lifting the bonnet. The radiator looks new as does the exhaust and rear boot rack. It’s fair to say that it is one of those cars were the sum of the parts is worth more than the car. I think that the previous restorer/ restorers have got a little carried away.
From the limited miles I did in the car it drove and stopped OK there are no noises or bangs from the gearbox. I am not an engine tuner and did get it going but following its MOT it was parked in my garage and driven nowhere and now it appears that there is a Carb issue, fuel is getting as far as the carbs but not to the cylinders, there is plenty of battery life and spark there just is no fuel passing to the engine. I have lost the enthusiasm and energy to rectify so am selling the car as is apart from this the only negative points of note are I have broken a stud on the front wheel as I came back from the MOT station the mud flap fell off so took the wheel of to put it back on and when I put the wheel back on I over tightened the nut and snapped if off (You couldn’t make this up LOL) the stud is less than £1to fix.
I notice that the speedo doesn’t work on taking it to and from the MOT station I don't know whether it ever worked but if it is a cable or a new speedo that won’t break the bank either way.
The engine is a little smokey on start-up but disappears when warm . It wasn’t enough to worry the MOT examiner and he suggests the car needs to be used due to it having been lying up for nearly 9 years.
So why am I selling ~ the hash truth I got so carried away with the cars condition and I should never have bought it as with two adults and a medium sized dog a better option would have been an MGB GT as I need a rear seat for the dog.
So if you have a running MGB GT or Triumph Stag in a similar condition (I don’t want rubbish) I may be interested in a swap cash either way.
I will have probably forgotten loads and can only load a handful of Photos so if you require any other info please ask.
You will be amazed at the condition of this car up and running this is easily a post £4K car but remember it is a non runner and sold as such
Obviously the car will need trailering away.

MGB GT 1977. Vermillion Red (the best colour for a rubber bumper in my opinion). I have been using the car daily for most part of the past year. This means it has seen winter and summer, sun, rain, snow, heat, ice, mud (yes mud) stop and go traffic, traffic jams, open roads, supermarket carparks, motorshows and motorways. ...
