Land Rover Series 2 II 88 SOLD (1958)
|This extremely rare early Series 2 has been residing in a barn in Scotland for 40 years.Luckily it was a dry one so it has preserved it well.!|
Tax and MOT exempt.
Up to date V5 document in my name with only 1 previous owner from 1958 until I aquired it in Nov 2016!
The Series 2 Land Rover was launched in April 1958 and the 88" used the running gear from the Series 1 88" as there were not enough of the new 2.25 petrol engines available.
Only 1703 1958 Series 2 2.0 Petrol 88" were made so these are the holy grail!
Chassis number 141800999 was sent to Rossleigh in Dundee and registered as HTS 437 to Robert Taylor & Son, 43 Union Street, Dundee on 17th July 1958.
I have a copy of the original Register of Motor Vehicles from the Dundee archive and a copy of the build record from the Rover archives.
The reg number is transferable and valuable but it would be a shame to part them after all these years.
It has lots of correct original 1958 features including the following.
Early two bolt galvanised front valance.
Birmingham Land Rover Badge
Bolt on vent flaps.
3 bolt tailgate
2 dated 6/58 wheels.
Correct Sparto rear lights and lucas front lights.
Correct 2.0 engine that runs with a petrol can.
As far as I can see it is only missing wiper motors and the dash panel and instruments.
The chassis is in remarkably good condition and is very sound. It has had a homemade rear crossmember at some time which I would replace.
The bulkhead is very sound and must must have had new footwells before it was laid up as they are very good.
The original colour was Bronze Green.
This will make a very nice restoration project.
Can be viewed off Junc 14 M4 Near Hungerford Berkshire.
