We are delighted to bring you this stunning 1988 Renault 5 GT 1.4 Turbo, a car evo.co.uk aptly described as “A mighty slice of old fashioned fun.” - details above
The Renault 5 GT Turbo is often considered the genesis vehicle of the hothatch. Renault did not just pop an aggressive engine in a daily runaround. They went to town on the front suspension and added an anti-roll bar. Moving to the back they put in an additional transverse torsion rod, a new anti-roll bar and new V-section beam at the forward end of the trailing arms.
Cosmetically, too, they upped the ante. The GT Turbo looks the part with its chunky arch extensions and wide bumpers, combined with the lower road positioning giving it the aura of a car that means business.
For a modern day driver, when you get behind the wheel, there is one more thing that brings back memories of being in direct control of something powerful and possibly dangerous – and that’s the wheel. Back in 1988, power steering was a very long way from being standard and this little beast recalls those halcyon days of really feeling the road under your grip.
But you probably know all this. . . Ours is a 1988 model, (Fresh import from Japan): 3 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 1400cc, Turbocharged, Tungsten grey metallic, Black/grey correct factory sports trim, Grey carpets, full electric pack, sunroof, alloys wheels. Very low miles.
This Renault 5GT turbo has spent all its life in Japan. In Japan they don’t use salt on the roads and cars tend to do fewer miles, partly due to the convenience of public transport, and are generally well cared for. As a result, it is possible to find good quality cars with low mileage, but this beauty is special even by Japanese standards.
Renault 5 GT Turbos were made to be driven hard and unfortunately most of them were. This explains why so few are around today and why we are so pleased to be able to bring this one to you. It is in exceptional condition. Don’t miss this opportunity for a fast and furious trip down memory lane (and one that could well prove to be quite the investment).
