1971 Morris Minor GPO Van
Reg. no. GAN 833J
Chassis no. MAE-5-296393
Engine no. 10MA-UL37923-4
This is a very well known Post Office Telephones Morris Minor and only the second time that it has come to the market since a ground-up nut-and-bolt restoration in 2000. A recent MOT that expires in February 2018 showed no advisories and the vehicle is ready to show this summer. A huge amount of authentic period original equipment and tools are included and the van has been described as a 'working museum'. It has been the subject of lead magazine articles in Classic Van & Pick Up, Minor Matters and Minor Monthly and it has won major prizes at the prestigious Hooe Concours D'Elegance (twice), The Morris Minor Owner's Club Kent Branches Hop, and the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club's annual show (and the trophies won will pass to the new owner of the van with various rally plaques). Since the restoration the van has always ben garaged by both owners and only used for classic vehicle events. Due to a change in occupation, the current owners are reluctantly forced to sell, as weekend working gives virtually no time to attend events.
Registered on the 19th May 1971, GAN 833J spent its entire working life with Post Office Telephones in London, based at Wansdworth until January 1977. It then had three owners until it was rescued from a trip to the scrapyard when two members of the Post Office Vehicle Club bought it, and they then sold it in an unrestored condition to Richard Wallace who spent six years on the restoration. The van still presents very well although there is some bubbling to the rear roof. There is a large history file in addition to the V5c; certainly a vehicle that deserves closer inspection.
This and 100 other classic cars will be sold at auction, many UNRESERVED, on June 17th at Allington, near Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6LJ
