Swingarm twin-sided tubular frame, brushed finish wide-glide front forks, deeply-valenced mudguards, 16.6 litre fuel tank, electric start, deep-chromed engine covers, forward foot controls, raked back handlebars, super-low 28in seat, pillion seat, custom style exhausts with slash cut mufflers, steering lock, twin chromed rear view mirrors, large chromed single headlamp unit, chrome-bezelled white-faced speedometer, deep chromed console housing warning/information lamps, heavy-chromed ‘old’ Triumph tank badges. Bold, stylish and unmistakably Triumph, this Bonneville America is every inch the classic cruiser. Low slung and laid back in the stateside mould, this exceptional example is finished in factory original Jet Black and Silver, (Code L2344). The descriptive terms ‘timewarp’ and ‘virtually perfect’ are rarely justifiable but entirely suitable in this instance. Owing to a mere 1,242 miles covered and strict garage storage underneath a cover, the paintwork and vast chrome pieces are exceptional. The exposed framework displays clearly visible factory plates and VIN stamping to the stock, and the original PDI markings are untouched. All trim sections, lights, badges and decals are as new, as are the seats, foot pegs and handlebar grips. The supplying dealer number plate remains fixed. The pillion footrest hangers mimic a toolbox, a neat touch borrowed from Triumph’s pre-war machines. Effortlessly stylish, this legendary cruiser will delight and amaze onlookers.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
At the heart of the machine lays the 790cc DOHC eight-valve engine with a 270 degree firing angle, instead of the usual 360 degree firing angle crankshaft. This bottom-end configuration gives the engine an uneven firing-order and produces the Bonneville America's distinctive and unmistakable off-beat exhaust note through mirror finish chromed slash-cut mufflers. As you would expect from such a low mileage and cosseted machine, the engine is a piece of ornamental beauty, proudly on display with masses of high polished chrome, a detailer’s paradise! Firing instantly on the electric start, the bike performs perfectly and the transmission with wet multi-plate type clutch works through each of the five gears effortlessly.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The beautiful original chrome wire wheels, 18in 36 spoke to the front and 15in 40 spoke to the rear, are virtually perfect, boast a gorgeous bright finish and retain the factory fitted weights. Quality Bridgestone tyres have masses of tread remaining. Disc brakes of size 310mm front and 285mm rear with two-piston callipers take care of stopping superbly.
The iconic Bonneville series from Triumph needs no introduction, and this America model has secured a special place amongst the cruiser fraternity, popular worldwide. This outstanding example was registered on 20th July 2002 to Mrs Thirza Dixon, who purchased the bike alongside her husband Peter, who at the same time purchased a brand new Triumph Legend TT. Mrs Dixon is the one and only keeper and has covered a mere 1,242 miles from new! A sales invoice and order form in the history file from supplying Triumph dealer, PFK Ling of Ipswich, illustrates the high price of this bike when new. Despite the low mileage, regular dealer and specialist servicing has been upheld. The original Triumph plastic document wallet houses the handbook and original service book with stamped entries. Furthermore, a collection of receipts and service invoices in the history file includes the most recent service carried out in September 2016. The history file also contains both original blue V5 documents and the PDI checklist, as well as previous MOT certificates.
The legendary Triumph Bonneville America was introduced in 2002, in this example is as close to a ‘new’ early machine as you can get.
