1989 Mk2 Golf GTI For SaleFor Sale is my 1989 Mk2 Golf GTI 8v Digifant
I have owned the car for the last 2 years. I had always wanted a Mk2 Golf GTI and now i have owned one and enjoyed her, i have moved onto other interests and sadly i cant give it the further attention or driving it needs.
It is a G reg 1989 8v GTI in Black with a folder full of paperwork.
Unfortunately it appears a replacement service book was sources from a previous owner with a VW Dealers stamp in 1995 at 57k and another from a local garage in Acton in 1999 with 20k miles added between those stamps.
In 1995-96 the first owner sold the car. During the second persons ownership he kept a very well documented record of receipts and works between 1995 and 2000. No expense has been spared and its very well observed through all the paperwork, mainly from Dane Motor Company in Wrexham (VW and Audi dealership). In the year 2000 i believe the 3rd owner acquired the vehicle and a few receipt for works during the year 2007.
The car had been off the road from 2007 until i purchased it in 2015. I instructed a local garage (who just happened to be a mk2 golf enthusiast) to get it up and running for me to carry on with further works. To get it fired up it required a replacement Fuel Pump and a Battery. Whilst she was there we got the cam belt and water pump replaced too.
Through my ownership i have had fixed/replaced:
Cam Belt + Water Pump
Digifant Engine Tuned by Fat Dubbers in Wrexham
Eicher Brake Discs and Pads all around (including replacing seized slider pins)
Copper brake piping
SNR 2 X Rear Wheel Bearings
Dash Board (previous had a crack)
Rocker Cover Gasket (rubber)
Blue Temp Sensor
Rotor Arm, Distributor Cap
Replaced fuse box due to previous water ingress
re fitted water membrane behind both door cards
re trimmed head lining
Replaced drivers side roof guttering (was leaking)
Sunroof wind deflector arms replaced (corroded)
Removed all interior to wet vac
New Coil Pack
Ignition Control Module
I have also serviced the car replacing the oil with TripleX 5w40 Full Synthetic, Bosch Spark Plugs, Oil Filter, Air Filter and Fuel Filter.
The car runs like a dream. No smoke, knocks or bangs.
Cosmetically through my ownership i have replaced the wheels with 15" BBS RA Alloys Wheels, comes with good treaded Toyo Proxes. A Track Slag exhaust system, See the youtube video, it sounds amazing…not too loud and no nasty drones when at motorway speeds.
This car does have the odd age related cosmetics. It has little rust bubbles on the lower drivers door and on the passenger side beneath the windscreen, also a little above the numberplate on the boot. Has stone chips here and there at the front but nothing nasty. The windscreen has a chip and a crack, but it did not affect the MOT result in anyway. Crack is passenger side bottom corner and chip is behind rear view mirror.
The car has had some welding in my ownership by professionals. Namely the drivers side lower sill, drivers side jacking point and a small section of the rear wheel well. I have been advised that this is a solid car now and doesn't suffer the usual seat belt anchoring points or fuel filler cap. Welding has been treated with anti rust paint and a coating of black paint to seal completely.
Mechanically, i occasionally need to blip the throttle to get her started when turning over, she will fire up after a few seconds if you persist with just turning over. When its been running it will fire up straight away with no issues.
Other bits that are niggly, the heater blower only works on max setting (researched it to be a resistor that needs replacing on the blower motor £20), MFA has slight bleed but is still readable through the modes. The light for the handbrake isn't working, however that is a replacement bulb (i don't have a soldering kit), one of the front fog lights isn't working, rear windscreen demist doesn't seem to work.
Car has sailed through its MOT in December 2016 (with no advisories) which is when i got her back on the road and has been used as a daily since then. Iv added around 800 Miles and its not missed a beat.
This car has been very much loved, during my ownership its been kept washed and polished. Paintwork is great considering how old the car is. Condition of the bodywork is pretty good.
The interior is in pretty good condition. Headlining is mint, dash is in great condition and dials and and MFA work. The seats have wear and tear but generally in good condition.
I live in Chester and looking to sell. No over seas buyers or tyre kickers please
