Land Rover Series 2a 1970 with galvanised chassis For SaleI'm selling this Landy on behalf of my Dad who's recent medical diagnosis means he will be in and out of hospital over the next year at least, and he has decided that this is a project too many.
You are looking at a late model Series 2a.
In the two years my Dad has owned 'Lizzie the Landie' he has had the following work carried out;
New prop shafts fitted
Brand new canvas tilt (so new it hasn't shrunk to fit yet so it looks a bit baggy)
New seat belt bar behind the seats to mount the seatbelts with a canvas tilt
5 brand new tyres
New front brake shoes
New transmission brake shoes
New front wheel cylinders left and right
New hub oil seals
New windscreen washer pump
Before my Dad took ownership the following work had been completed
Galvanised Chassis fitted
electronic ignition fitted
New driver side door top
Repairs to the bulkhead to make it solid
As you can see from the pictures she has a fair bit of patina and has been used and loved. I suspect a replacement ex military engine has been fitted due to the colour although I have no paperwork to back this up. She starts on the button and drives really well. The springs look pretty recent (I imagine done when the chassis was done) and the are no where near as jarring as my own 2a. The engine pulls really well and all the work recently done on the brakes means she pulls up well. The overdrive engages smoothly and doesn't howl or grumble which is quite something. The additional lamps are not to my taste but they are excellent and considerably better than the 'candles' my 2a has. Overall when I drove her I was really taken by how well she went.
The only negative is that she does come out of second gear occasionally.
Surely this must be the holy grail of landies. Looks used and loved but mechanically sorted and with a solid chassis. This could be a lovely winter project with loads of scope to improve or use and enjoy as is.
The boring bit.
I'm not willing to ship the Landie out of the country and this is a UK only add. I'm not interested in canvassing.
I'm happy for people to come and look at Lizzie, but please, only if you are serious.
