Lotus Europa Twin-Cam Special JPS No.40, 5 Speed, 1972. For Sale
Lotus Europa Twin-Cam Special JPS No.40, 5 Speed, 1972. Very rare genuine numbered John Player Special Europa as confirmed by the Lotus Archives and bearing it’s “Special” ‘040’ black and gold badge which was issued with the Limited Edition run in 1972 when 100 of these were manufactured for the U.K. market. These badges were handed to the new owners by the Lotus Dealerships and not attached to the car, so many have gone missing over the years. There are many other Europa Specials in JPS livery, but very few in existence with the provenance of this stunning example. We have sold hundreds of Europas over the years and this is only one of very few we have seen with this distinctive badge. The badge has been carefully stored in the history folders and photographic album that comes with this gorgeous Europa. Beautifully restored from the ground upwards and various work completed by world renowned Europa specialists Europa Engineering. The body and paintwork restoration details are documented in the photo album. The chassis rebuild is in superb condition with everything having been replaced with genuine items or refurbished original parts. Engine runs sweetly with a superb gear-change and pin-point handling. 20,494 recorded miles in 1984 and the speedo is now showing 26k+ miles which is around 3,000 since the restoration was completed in 2013. The car has therefore done very little mileage over the last 30 years. The cabin is superb with beautifully trimmed in magnolia hide (can be re-trimmed in original vinyl if preferred). Stunning dashboard and rare original Philips “Turnlock” radio. Original steering wheel and horn-push. This example is a delight in every department with a big history file and photo album and is featured in the book LOTUS, The Legend, and the Classic Cars calendar in 1994.
