Jensen Interceptor III 7.2L For Sale (1973)
This 7.2 litre Jensen Interceptor III is probably one of the finest available anywhere in the world today and has been the subject of a ground up restoration by specialist paint & marque expert Keith Hockenhull over a four year period totalling some 3140 hours.
The original bodyshell has benefited from a complete strip down to bare metal with new metal of the correct gauge being fitted as required and lead loaded as per original specification. Modern primer and paint systems have been used to protect and finish the bodywork to an extremely high Concours standard. The coachwork finished colour is Matisse Blue. A photographic record of the restoration will accompany the car.
A new hand made custom bonnet was fashioned by Pete Southan of Southan Metalcraft Ltd to provide adequate clearance for the new 7.2 litre Chrysler V8, which sits marginally higher in the engine bay than the original, owing to the incorporation of Edelbrock aluminium cylinder heads, carburettor and intake manifold. The overall appearance is much the same as that of a standard Interceptor III and the air flow/ heat dissipation from the engine compartment has been considerably improved with the addition of a horizontal grill at the end of a slightly elongated bonnet bulge.
The replacement Chrysler 440 V8 7212 cc engine was specially built and supplied by Pro-formance Unlimited of Ocean, New Jersey, USA using all new high performance components. These include a precision ground and micro polished 440 crankshaft; high performance pistons; Crane performance camshaft; 440 Edelbrock aluminium heads; Edelbrock performance intake manifold & carburettor; MSD pro-billet distributor, coil and ignition control. Pro-formance Unlimited also supplied an uprated 3-speed automatic Torqueflite gearbox to accommodate what is believed to be 475HP from the uprated Chrysler 440 engine.
The original antiquated air conditioning system has been replaced with a new modern system by specialist supplier.
The original Jensen five spoke alloy wheels have been refurbished with spokes and rims mirror polished and rear panels in black. New tyres have been fitted to original specification.
The interior has been completely replaced with new leather by specialist Tom Hampton, and to a much higher specification/ standard than when it left the factory. Front and rear seats are as per original design but front seat head restraints are trimmed in leather as opposed to original cloth. Headlining is in all new leather as are door cards and interior surfaces, including rear parcel shelf and boot area components.
The original moulded plastic dashboard has been discarded in favour of the later dash layout. Top roll is in blue leather with the lower area in cream/ magnolia leather to match seating. The original instruments have been restored and carried over into the new dash layout, which has benefited from custom Walnut veneering to the dash and centre console.
This Interceptor III has not only been restored and rebuilt to a much higher standard than when it left the factory in June, 1973, it also benefits from some unique features and modern components. It has covered only 8 (eight) rolling road miles since restoration, being part of a private collection, and is to all intents and purposes a ‘new’ car which will only appreciate in this condition. A wonderful addition to any serious car collection. Offered for sale at well below the cost of restoration.
