1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE 3.8 Litre OPEN TWO SEATER For Sale
The Jaguar E-Type Roadster was first unveiled in the 1961 Geneva Motor Show and promptly won the hearts of not only the rich and famous from the Hollywood Hills but also the enthusiastic collectors across Europe. With the help of Jaguar's racing experience, the factory ensured that the new road car was installed with modern race derived independent suspension at the front and rear, with disc brakes all round. The performance matched the stunning design and Jaguars legendary twin cam 3.8 litre straight six was housed under the bonnet, producing a notable 265hp and 240lb.ft of torque that allowed 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds! In 1965 the factory decided to refresh the interior with larger seats and to enlarge the engine size to 4.2 litres. Despite the increased engine size, the top speed remained the same at around 150 mph. Many to this day still believe the earlier and lighter 3.8 litre is the model to have, of which this particular example is the last year produced.
According the accompanying Jaguar Heritage certificate, this beautifully restored, matching numbers Jaguar E-Type is finished in its original factory ordered Carmen Red with black leather interior, black carpets and black soft top. The Jaguar was purchased new by Mr J.A Wolfe in 1964, who decided to take a ‘Personal Export Delivery’ meaning initial delivery of the Jaguar was taken in the UK, prior to shipping it to his home in Washington, USA. The Jaguar was therefore first registered in the UK, with the mark 8157 WK, which remains on the car to this day. Much of the early history is unknown, however, it is clear from conversations that it was very well cared for. The Jaguar was later shipped to Ireland where it remained until 2012. During its Irish life, the car was evidently restored to a very high level, and included one or two updates, such as a cigarette lighter being installed to allow a phone charger to be used. After a little over 1000 miles of use, the E-Type made its way to the English shores and past into the hands of a good friend and client of ours. Subsequently the owner has purchased a UK RHD example and as a result this car is now surplus to requirement and with an endurance rally car on the horizon, a space in the garage would be most welcome. Consequently, we are now very pleased to offer this exceptional example for sale.
This matching numbers E-Type is equipped with its original 4-speed Moss gearbox, bucket sports seats and period radial Dunlop tyres. The Jaguar benefits from an air heater and stereo and comes with tools, jack, hammer and spare wheel. With only 3000 miles since restoration and accompanied by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this Jaguar E-Type represents excellent value for money and is nothing short of exceptional in every way.
