1971 Land Rover Series IIa 109" Station Wagon For Sale
|1971 109" Series IIa Station Wagon - suffix H vehicle number, very last of the IIa’s.|
I have owned it since 2014. Since then it's had a combination of restoration work and sympathetic modernisation. It's now about as everyday-usable a Series Land Rover as you're likely to get, but retains the period feel.
Rebuilt on a galvanised chassis, lots of other bits have been repaired and replaced. As well as the usual Land Rover issues, the particular Station Wagon foibles have been addressed - namely the side frames and second row doors, which are almost universally rotten on these models. The Station Wagon interior trim is all present and in original unrestored condition.
It’s done roughly 7k since the rebuild, in that time it has been well looked after, dry stored, and very reliable.
MOT'd until November 2018 - Road tax is free.
Here's a brief summary of the work done/specification:
New Richards galvanised chassis (dual front fuel tank outriggers, oil cooler mount and steering damper mount added over standard). Engine mounts to suit 200tdi - can also a take a 2.25 with appropriate mounts, no chassis cutting required.
New multileaf road springs
200tdi (ex-Range Rover), timing belt and idler replaced, crank and cam seals replaced. Series radiator, Mocal oil cooler, 300tdi intercooler, Kenlowe fan, x-eng fan relay (switchable off/auto/on). 200tdi air filter housing.
Full Steve Parker 200tdi conversion exhaust
Early (‘59) dipstick crashbox (full-syncro box was working when removed and will be included with sale if desired).
New clutch, clutch master, clutch slave and shaft
New Roamerdrive (formerly Roverdrive) overdrive w/tbox dipstick and oil cooler plate (oil is shared with tbox)
Galvanised front panel
Galvanised second row door frames (repaired originals, not the new ones which don’t fit)
New front door bottoms
New side frames (all in one sill/b pillar/c pillar peculiar to station wagons) and new side frame cover panels
Galvanised rear door frame
Ex-MOD crate (reconditioned) front axle
New brake master and rear slave cylinders (front slaves were also new due to recon axle)
New brake shoes, pipes and flexi lines all round
Tbox output seals and diff nose seals replaced
Modern headlamps (Wipac crystal)
Modern tyres (Michelin Latitude in 7.50 r16 flavour)
External respray in original bronze green and limestone
Wheels blasted and resprayed in not-so-original limestone as I prefer the look
The Roverdrive is awesome - unlike a period Fairey unit, it’s silent and can be used in any gear - handy for splitting ratios as well as for dropping revs at cruising speed. It still runs the stock 4.7:1 ratio axle diffs, so when the overdrive isn’t engaged the low gears remain suitably low.
For more detail on what parts went into the rebuild, please see here:
Receipts for all part used in the rebuild will be included.
It will come with various spare seals/gaskets etc.
A towbar drop plate and towbar electrics are fitted, but since the spare wheel is now back in the original (low) position there’s no room for a towball. If required to tow, this can be rectified by swapping the spare wheel mount and blanking plate around to mount the spare higher up on the door.
