1974 ‘Regular’ soft top model on original chassis. 2.25l 4cyl petrol engine with Zenith carb, coupled to a 4spd manual transmission. 5 x Modular steel wheels in black with 235/85R16 radial Toyo MT off road tyres. Comes fully serviced, with MoT’d until 21st September 2018.
The Series III was launched in 1971, and didn’t change a great deal from the Series IIA that preceded it. It is still the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, and its shape was carried right through from the Series II to the most recent Defender, which only this year has ceased production after its long 67 year life span. Upgrades from the Series IIA included a full synchromesh gearbox, new dashboard with integral heater and instrument cluster and radiator grille.
This Overland & Highway retro style ‘Rock’ edition is a short wheel base ‘Regular’ soft top, first registered on 14th August 1974. The ‘two and a quatre’ settles into a quiet tick over thanks to an electronic ignition system, and pulls with plenty of grunt cruising at 50-55mph happily due to its larger radial tyres. All the gears select perfectly and the low range and four wheel drive select as they should. The brakes are also strong and willing, bringing the vehicle up to a stop nice and straight. On road or off it, the vehicle is very capable and versatile and could carry you and your mates plus a couple of surf boards to the beach with no worries!
The vehicle has been stripped down for full refurbishment in the last few years, with many parts replaced for new. The chassis is original, and has been refurbished to an excellent standard making for a very strong sturdy frame. The bulkhead is also believed to be original, and is in equally excellent shape. The suspension is the original multi-leaf set up, which is pretty firm for load carrying ability, however could be changed to parabolics if a more supple ride is preferred. The body work is good, with some minor dents/ripples left in the panel work before being resprayed keeping the authentic Landy look! The Royal Blue paintwork is great, with some minor light scratches here and there but looks stunning and is different to the usual ‘Marine’ blue. A brand new galvanised bumper, wheels and tyres and black canvas hood finish the retro-look.
The interior is in superb condition; with three brand new black and green vinyl ‘Deluxe’ front seats and a very good dashboard. There are two, three point seats belts, a middle lap belt, and fold-up bench seating in the back. Brand new rubber floor mats front and back keep things easy to wash out. All the electrical items and gauges work as they should, with a working heater to keep things toasty in the colder weather.
This unique, old-school Land Rover would make a great investment that you can use and enjoy at the same time rather than sitting in the garage gathering dust. These vehicles are so versatile that you can almost use them for anything, at any time of the year – perhaps a trip to Rock in Cornwall with a wetsuit!
The odometer reads 54000 at present (we cannot verify this to be genuine or not), and the vehicle is MoT’d until 21st September 2018 with no advisories. If you are interested in this vehicle, please do get in touch – we’d be happy to help! If you prefer a hard top roof or other options, we can convert it over for you to suit your preferences as well as any other extra changes you might like.
We have described the vehicle as accurately as we can, but please take your time looking through the photos. Viewing is most welcome, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
