1965 Porsche 912
An earlier 912 with three more fittings!
For many Porsche fans the price of the 911 certainly quenched enthusiasm when this new model first appeared. Under pressure from sales, a quick solution had to be found, and with the 911 this was reached with the old four-cylinder engine from the 356. Events that unfolded in 1965 after this "912"-named compromise solution was brought on the market surprised everyone. The little brother of the 911 surpassed it by far in terms of sales numbers. Although this might have been down simply to the significant price difference of 5,000 marks, the equivalent of a new VW beetle, the joy of driving offered with this model was also a major factor. The 912 was 100 kg lighter, and was as such better balanced than the 911, and with its 90 HP was very agile. Up until 1969 about 30,000 copies had been produced. Amongst connoisseurs of the old Porsche, the 912 lived long in the shadows of the 911. Ultimately, however, this changed dramatically.
This 912 is a 1966 model, built in 1965 by Karmann. In 2005 the Porsche was still registered in the USA according to the vehicle papers. In 2010, the first invoices were then sent to an Austrian address for parts orders from German dealers. According to these it was then upgraded with a new interior, new tyres and various rubber components. Since 2011, the 912 has been in the collection of the most recent owner, who drove it regularly, but still did not manage to accumulate 1.800 km. This, and the fact that the focus of his collection has now completely changed, has led the present owner to sell his 912. The 912 with its short wheelbase and pleasing chrome wheels carries its very own 60s charm!
