1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster - Mille Miglia Eligible For Sale
XK120s were fitted with independent torsion bar front suspension, semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear, telescopically adjustable steering column and recirculating ball steering, and all-round 12-inch drum brakes. It was powered by a 3. 4 litre inline 6 cylinder, fitted with double SU carburettors that help achieve 160hp and producing a reported top speed at the time of 124mph.
The XK120 was so good that the factory tweaked the road going version and entered it with success in prestigious events around the world including Le Mans, Targa Florio, Mille Miglia and closer to home, the Tourist Trophy achieving 1-2-3 victory, with Sterling Moss at the helm of the winning car.
Featured here is a number’s matching example that was first delivered to Nancy Biggs of Los Angeles, CA., and shown on the accompanying Heritage Trust Certificate as cream over blue with a fawn Hood. Much of the early history is unknown but the Jaguar left the West coast and was bought by a member of the Atlantic Jaguar Society club, Skip Smith, who proudly won best in class at the 2011 AJS Concours d’Elegance, achieving 99 points of the 100 available. Obviously not content with 99 points, Mr Smith decided to have the various areas that received point deductions, refreshed or replaced. This included a full body respray, with body panels realigned to ensure excellent body panel gaps and various chrome parts addressed. At the same time, the wire wheels were cleaned and new tyres fitted and balanced. Mr Smith then decided to have the engine serviced in 2014 prior to selling the car to Europe. Over the next couple of years the Jaguar received a thorough mechanical overhaul and an engine rebuild by Knight Engine Services Ltd.
This sympathetically restored XK120 is in superb condition throughout and would be a welcomed sight on an off a concours lawn whilst being equally perfect for a host of vintage rallies across the UK and Europe. It is complete with a tonneau cover, history file, including Jaguar Heritage Certificate and factory tools.
