This 1968 MGB GT is a lovely car, and a rare one too, as it has automatic transmission. It is finished in its original colour of Sandy Beige, with a wonderful red interior.
The MG comes with a detailed history, going right back to the original sales invoice of 1968, when it was bought by a Mr Cockerill. The invoice even includes £3/10 for 12 gallons of petrol! The same Mr Cockerill still owned the car right up to 1996. It travelled to Greece around 2007 and returned to the UK in 2016 when it went back to its original 1968 registration plate. There are MoT certificates going right back to the first one in 1971, so we are reasonably confident that the stated mileage of 77,400 is genuine.
The history file shows that the bodywork has had attention in the past, as you’d expect, and is rust-free and looking really good. Brand new wire wheels (as per the original specification) have just been fitted, along with new Dunlop tyres.
The engine has been rebuilt and modified for use with today’s unleaded petrol, and fitted with an electric Kenlowe fan.
The interior is stunning. New seat foams and covers have been fitted, along with a full new carpet set, all in the original red. A concession to modernity is a retro-style radio that includes an FM RDS radio and iPod link. This is linked to new speakers that have been discretely positioned in the footwells and boot, to give remarkably good sound quality.
The MGB is a joy to drive. Don’t expect super performance and handling but simply enjoy wafting along, letting the automatic transmission do the work. It really is a relaxing and enjoyable experience – almost like driving an old Jaguar!
Unless otherwise stated, all our cars are put through a thorough independent mechanical inspection and any faults found are rectified before sale. They are also issued with 12 months’ MoT (without any advisories) and a six month warranty underwritten by us. Part exchange and finance available.
