There’s nothing quite like an early 70s MGB GT. The perfect mix between 60s sportscar design and the refinements of the later cars. These cars are a fantastic investment, with prices rising all of the time.

This car is no exception, and I feel you’ll struggle to find a better one in this price range. It’s had a great deal of work during its life, which I will detail throughout the ad. The car has an MOT until September 2018 with no advisories, and of course, with the new DVLA rules, will be exempt from MOT from May next year. It’s covered just 7000 miles in the last 10 years!

The previous owner had had the car for quite a few years, and in that time concentrated on making it a reliable, mechanically sound car. The car had a full professional structural restoration in the early 1990s and there appear to be no issues here. Since then, the car has had another cosmetic restoration as the paintwork had gone flat.
Work in recent years includes:

• Full professional respray in Teal Blue – all panelwork appears to be very solid indeed with no signs of filler
• New carpets and seat covers
• Carburettors rebuilt, rebalanced and retuned, timing checked – compressions are also good.
• New alternator and fan belt
• New track rod ends
• New brake pipes, and rear brakes
• Electronic ignition fitted
• Kenlowe fan fitted
• Innertia reel belts fitted
• …and much more!

I have a great big folder full of history for the car which dates back 30 years or more. It includes photos and details of the major restoration, and lots more since!

Structurally, the car appears to be nice and solid. The sills, castle rails, chassis legs and spring hangers all appear to be fine – it wouldn’t have got through an MOT, otherwise! You’re more than welcome to come and have a good prod around. The car was painted in relatively recent times, and the finish is excellent (but please don’t expect a concourse car!). The wing-top seams are all in excellent condition, as are the door and wing bottoms (all replaced during the rebuild). Like I’ve said, it’s not a concourse car but it’s not the usual tarted-up junk either.

The car runs nicely, with what appears to be a Gold Seal engine. The carbs have just been rebuilt and rebalanced and the car ticks over smoothly, and pulls strongly. The car doesn’t overheat, and is fitted with an electric fan which runs on a thermostat, keeping the car at the correct temperature. The overdrive is fully functional and the gearbox has no crunches and doesn’t jump out of gear.
The brakes grab nicely, and the car pulls up in a straight line, and the car rides nicely (for an MGB!).

The interior is very clean and tidy, also. It’s had new seat covers fitted, and the dash is in good condition. A replacement carpet set has been fitted and is still in good order, and a set of MGB rubber mats are included too. The headlining is particularly good, with no discolouration or sagging. There is also a CD player fitted.

This is an excellent price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes. Obviously it’s not a concourse show car but it’s generally very good indeed, but is ready to use and enjoy. You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view.
