1963 Jensen CV8 SOLD

Not only is this a truly exceptional Jensen CV8, it is an incredibly rare, scarce MKI example and a collectors dream. Only 500 Jensen CV8’s were ever built 490 in RHD format but only 69 MKI examples were ever built. The MKI CV8 is unbelievably rare and considering only 99 RHD Gordon Keeble cars were ever built, it puts this car into perspective. The CV8 model has been strongly appreciating and in Europe we have seen examples offered over the £100, 000 mark already. The CV8 was a super car of its day, powered by a 305 bhp Chrysler 361ci V8 at first, and later by the 330 bhp 383 engine, it was one of the most wonderful cars of its era with true power, impressive handling, comfort, luxury and of course safety. This is car to drive, and its performance and general feel will totally surprise anyone with little experience of the model. It feels many years ahead of its time, and when 1950’s and 1960’s two door coupe’s with performance nowhere near the CV8 can command over £250, 000, it really makes these cars look incredibly good value with lots of opportunity to further rise in value.

AOW 305A was first registered on the 24th May 1963 and the car has spent most of its life in Southern England. The Jensen did spend some time in Southern Ireland and later Hamberg, Germany and came back to the UK in 2010. Prior to 2010 the interior had been totally re-trimmed and the car mechanically enhanced with Coopercraft front brake calipers, rebuilt rear calipers with larger pistons, new four barrel carburettor and stainless steel exhaust system. When returning to England in 2010, the Jensen had a recorded mileage of 87, 000 miles, believed but not guaranteed correct. Between 2010 and 2015 the Jensen covered a further 4000 miles and owned by a long term customer of ours, a farmer in Dorset with a fine collection of classic cars. We had known of the car for some time and were looking for a top quality example for a collector who was keen to add a CV8 to his impressive collection. Negotiations took place in a large barn on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton and we managed to prize the car away from Dorset and transported the CV8 to Yorkshire. Whilst coming to us in strong condition, we were commissioned to carry out around £20, 000 of work taking the CV8 to a stunning level.

In 2015 and early 2016 major expenditure included an £8, 000 windows out full re-paint to an exceptional standard. For comfort purposes only, a pair of Jensen Interceptor front seats were re-trimmed in leather and fitted to the car and do offer a very relaxed driving position. The original front seats are also with the car. The cylinder heads were removed and totally rebuilt and other lighter work included new tyres, rear spring shackle bushes, handbrake shoes, fan belt, distributor cap, fuel filter, plug leads, points, condenser, spark plugs and oil and filter change. A new kenlowe fan was also fitted. The Jensen has done some UK touring and has been thoroughly enjoyed over the past 18 months. The owner has now had a change of direction with his regards his collection and is mainly concentrating on Jaguars. Cars that have had previous owners like this can often be the best cars to buy, it has been truly loved, detailed and has been improved with absolutely no expense spared. Thousands of pounds have been spent taking this car to condition 1 and it will be difficult to repeat.

On the road AOW 305A is quite simply astonishing. Its super-fast, strong, powerful and has a wonderful throaty V8 engine. The automatic gearbox is smooth, the car handles and brakes perfectly and the car is just light years ahead of its era. This is a car that can take on serious touring, it loves to be driven and is happy and comfortable being driven hard. Its looks match performance; it has gleaming paintwork and excellent panels. Chrome work gleams and the upholstery is very sharp with high quality leather and carpets. We are happy to re-fit the original seats if necessary. Wheels and tyres are excellent, the engine bay nicely aged and the car has real presence. This car will suit so many types of owners, whether looking for an investment or something to cover long distances and serious touring, this car should suit perfectly. The Jensen has covered in the region of 1500 miles in the past few months and attended Goodwood Revival. In just a few weeks the CV8 was driven from North Yorkshire to Worcestershire, around 400 miles were then added to the car before Worcestershire to Goodwood and back. This is a CV8 ready to use and enjoy is a very unique opportunity.
