Volvo 740SE-1988 low mileage same family from new For Sale
This car was my fathers 60th birthday present to himself. Sadly four years later he became ill and my mother became the main driver of this car. As they got older the driving became less and less. Eventually my mother stopped driving but kept the car and to keep it running I used to drive every few weeks. It finally went into storage and was SORN for about 4 years or so. I recommissioned it in July 2015. We did all the obvious service items, brakes, hoses, belts, fuel pump etc and off we went to the MOT station and got a certificate without an advisory. When it was recommissioned I had to change the V5 so it will show two owners.
Vovlo owners will know the headlining drops and we had that problem too. Had a company replace it and to be honest the car is in really good physical condition both inside and out. I have run out storage spaces so with a real heavy regret - this one has to go.
It does have a problem - either there is dirt in the fuel system or the timing needs to be set up properly. It spits and splutters and coughs and fights you while you are driving - and then it will clear and it drives like it has just come off the production line. I am not a mechanic or auto electrician and it is just my experience that tells me its pointing in that direction. Thinking about it it might be the fuel pump, during the recommissioning we had to put 3 on before we found one that worked well.
At the last MOT the fuel cap spring flew off and needs to be refitted. Also on the way home I decided to check the air pressure in the tyres. To do this you need to remove the hub cap and you guessed it, lost one on the way home so now it only has three instead of four now.
This car has been a spare run around. It is also my late parents car so it really is a regretable sale but I have just run out of storage now.
