1967 JAGUAR 420 AUTOMATIC SALOON, PAS, MUCH RECENT EXPENDITURE!! For Sale
The Jaguar 420 and Daimler Sovereign models were produced from 1966 until 1969. They shared the dimensions of the “S” type and were similar from the rear but the front end styling was more akin to the Mark X saloon. Although these were heavier cars than the 3.8 MK2, the increase in engine size to 4.2 litre with twin 2” SU carbs and independent rear suspension ensured that the new model was at least as brisk on the road as the earlier car. They were also something of a test bed for the incoming XJ6 – the running gear was virtually identical – and despite strong sales they only remained in production for just over two years making them quite rare today.
This car is a 1968 Jaguar 420 saloon in white with a red interior and optional power steering. It was originally exported to South Africa and came back to the UK in 2002. It is in beautiful condition and has benefitted from very substantial recent expenditure in the last 12 months, including complete overhaul of the braking and suspension system with new front and rear subframes including all bushes, four new tyres, four new brake calipers, discs, exhaust, steering box and rear shockers. It has also had a new carpet set, door cards and furflex. The body, paint finish and underside are all in very good order as are the engine and gearbox with strong oil pressure and smooth changes from the Borg Warner gearbox. The “Marles Varamatic” power steering also works smoothly – it’s a little known fact that this was a cost option on the 420 but in reality most cars were ordered with it.
Ready to use with long MOT and comes with a history file containing various bills and old MOT’s Great value – a Jaguar Mk2 alternative for less than the price of a Morris Minor traveller!
