There are a lot of Ural solos for sale which are just a sidecar outfit with the sidecar removed, this is NOT one of them. Genuine Ural solo with 18 inch wheels (complete with slightly oval drums which is pretty much normal for a Ural), solo gearing, sidestand, original Pioli forks, built as a solo by the factory and originally sold by us at F2 Motorcycles when it was new.
Oily rag condition, in that it all works, and most of the paint and chrome is OK rather than good.
This bike has been used, ridden, stored outside on occasions and generally used as a motorcycle just as intended. It's even been ridden in the rain, sometimes it's been used for weeks without even a wash, poor thing.
It came back to us at F2 Motorcycles in a neglected state having been unused for a while and left to stand in all weathers. But these Urals are hardy, they may not be sophisticated, or fast, or beautifully styled in Italy, or any number of other things, but they are hardy.
It has now been properly and completely recommissioned including a full and thorough service, new carb mounts, new battery, the odd oil seal, a few rubber parts that had weathered badly and numerous other things needed to bring it back to life and make it happy again. All our Urals are serviced with fully synthetic oils and genuine parts, unless there are good reasons why non genuine parts are better.
At some point in it's life it has had the alternator upgraded from the frankly disastrous original to the later nippon denso unit as fitted to post 2005 Urals. The carbs are the original Keihin CVs but we have changed the inlet pipes to the post 2012 factory items as they are about 100 times better than the 2004 ones.
If you normally ride a modern bike you will be quite shocked at the amount of mechanical noise a 2004 Ural makes, grinding, clattering, whining, yes it does it all, sometimes all at once. The wonderful all steel screen focuses this din straight into the riders face. It's all part of the experience.
Ural solos have heaps of character, they feel heavy, they certainly are not quick, the brakes seem to both fade and grab at the same time, they are noisy and will occasionally need some home fettling to keep them happy. They are simple, robust and just a little different. Some people bond with them and forgive them their foibles. These folk find joy in the simpler things in life like completing a 2nd to 3rd gear change without a crunch, or changing the gear box oil without burning the inside of their arm on the exhaust. A few, but only a few can even put one on the center stand and make it look easy.
Hopefully if you have got this far you are just the sort of slightly odd ball person who can offer this Ural a loving home. It will annoy and delight you in equal measures, They will mostly go on and on without complaint, but they will occasionally stop working and need some care.
Mileage is in km even though the speed is indicated in both miles and Kms. It's done just over 23000 km which is about 14500 miles. It's had two owners from new and the MOT runs out November 2018. Serviced and ready to ride.
