This is a solid and reliable classic car. It is a great looking car that mixes british and american car styles of the era. The humber sceptre is essentially the top of the range hillman super minx, sharing a lot of the same parts, but with a better level of trim, and larger more powerful engine. The mk2 appears to be the more desirable and less common version of the sceptre.
It has a long M.O.T, it expires 16th august 2018.
I have a folder of old receipts for work done and parts, also old M.O.T certificates.
The car has recently had a respray which was done to a good standard. The body is solid with no welding needed. Chrome trim is in a good condition for the age of the car. It apears to be an older restoration. The door rubbers dont look to be in the best condition so could do with replacing.
The engine is a reconditioned unit from before my ownership of the car, it feels smooth and has enough power to keep up with modern traffic and overtaking easily. I have fitted a weber 32/36 to the standard manifold, which works well, keeping it very driveable due to the progressive secondary. There is no choke fitted, it will start in the cold although it can take a little longer. There is a electric fan running off a thermostat which keeps things at a good temperature when your stuck in traffic or in town. There is a full stainless steel exhaust system fitted, which has a good sound without being loud.
The 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive on 3rd and 4th works well, the overdrive bringing the revs down to a good level whilst cruising.
Front brakes have EBC rotors with EBC green stuff pads, which are an improvement over standard, The rear brakes are standard but the brakes work well for a car of this age.
I have fitted spax adjustable shocks front and back, which really have made a big difference to how the car handles, allowing you to make it as hard or soft as youd like.
The wheels are wider and taller than standard and are from a more modern citroen. They are modified to take the original hub caps to keep them looking original, but i have been able to fit tyres that are quite a bit larger than the original items. It has 185/65/14 on the front and 195/70/14 on the back, the taller rear tyres have upped the gearing to reduce revs whilst cruising but it hasn't negatively effected the way it drives elsewhere.
The interior is in good condition for the age of the car, with the only damage being a rip at the top of the rear seat, and a split and a previous repair on the side of the front seats. There will be photographs of these when i get time to take some interior photos.
I used this car daily for over a year and was very reliable, and fun to drive. Selling due to having another project and not having enough space.
I have some spares that i would like to see go with the car.
